It's been a few years since I've been on here, because, knock on wood, things have been going half-way decent. Apparently there is a reason for the decency in my health.
Long story short: I was diagnosed about five years ago after a colonoscopy and small bowel follow through. Nothing too exciting for the past five years after being on Asacol, Azathioprine and an occasional bought of prednisone.
I went to the doctor yesterday for a small-bowel follow-through (had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago). The good news is my doctor is thinking I don't have any additional areas of active Crohn's. The bad news is the spot in my small intestine that was the concern five years ago looks the same, now just being scar tissue, and it is so constricted that stuff is having a hard time passing through. They would like to take that out or I can opt out of surgery and go on a low-residue, low fiber diet.
I'm scared for surgery. It's not crucial that I have the surgery immediately, but it looks like surgery is the most viable option at this time.
My question is, I've heard that when the diseased area is cut out, there is a chance that the Crohn's could attack again, and maybe even worse. What are the chances that this will happen?
