I thought this may help someone going through the same thing or curious of what could happen. And I pray it happens to no one!! My first pregnancy I was not Dx with Crohn's yet. It was shortly after giving birth to my first son that I started having Symptoms. 3 years later with my second son, is a completely different story. When I found out that I was prego for the 2nd time, I called my GI (who is no longer my Dr.) and he told me to quit taking my medicine (entocort) So I did. Well 3 months later, I started getting really sick. I couldn't keep anything down and was having horrible pain. I was in and out of the ER every weekend. The GI doctor keep saying it wasn't my Crohn's and he did not want to treat me for it. That it was simply a virus and I kept telling him i thought it was my crohn's (Now after 2 1/2 months of this I was fed up) It wasn't all the time, but I had enough. I ended up getting a new GI at Vandy. He put me back on Entocort and a new medicine Asocal. Well the symtoms I was having continued. I ended up being admitted to the Hospital. For a month. During this they confirmed that I had a partial bowel obstruction. After a week of not eating and being 28 weeks pregnant, they had to put me on TPN (food through a PICC line) I was starting to get a little better and they were talking about
sending me home. Well the next week during the night I had HORRIBLE pain from my abdominal area. My blood pressure dropped to 80/40, my pulse was way to high in the 150's. They were scared my baby wasn't going to make it, let only myself.
but I knew there was no way my time was up. They decided to do another cat scan (even with the risks of being pregnant) I was sent to the intensive care unit. To learn that I still had the bowel obstruction but another part of my bowl had ruptured. They had to put a drain in my side (oh did it smell awful) After it was placed, I started feeling better. So I got to go home with my drain and my PICC line. Returing 4 weeks later to have my second child. 3 weeks early b/c they saw it necessary for me to have surgery. So when he was 2 weeks old, I went in to have my first bowel resection. They took out 16 inches and my appendix (I also had appendicitus during this time) And the surgeon told me that where my bowl had ruptured it attached to my liver, so he disconnected it and he said that fat from my belly/being pregnant made it do so and that my body defended itself and that if I hadn't have been pregnant I might not be here today. And now 12 weeks later, my son is a healthy and happy baby and so far I remain in remission and I'm on Imuran.
I'm very blessed and just wanted to share my story.
