Do you know Becoming, I was pretty much joking when I said it would be my next challenge, but I do believe I could grow it here ! The temperature here in a bad winter nowadays rarely falls below - 10
O C, I think the problem would probably be our lousy summers - lots of rain and not much in the way of very hot days. (I know there are a lot of people who would give their eye teeth for that, but they are not growing plants covered with fungal diseases.
)
I already have some ginger rhizomes, but didn't know how to go about
getting them to grow - the one I tried last year rotted in the ground, it was a dreadfully wet summer. With the info on those pages you linked to, I think I now have a better chance.
Delhi, you are a mine of useful information. Not least because I had not thought of pots as a way of saving my plants from the rabbits - until I get the fence repaired they will eat just about
everything. I am still in the process of moving in, so I am trying to start things growing without actually being there to tend them much of the time. With rabbits and slugs around, that is usually fatal. Still, I can always think of it as a way of fattening up my evening meal.... (
No, I don't mean the slugs :smilewinkgrin
That Hb problem is one that I am likely to have, I think. Whenever I have a flare for a certain length of time, I start finding I am breathless when going upstairs, as well as the usual fatigue that comes with illness. (Fatigue is my biggest symptom with CD.) I have always thought that this is probably anaemia, caused by the inflammatory reaction attacking blood cells. I usually just add a little molasses and as much dark green leafy food to my diet as possible, but now I maybe understand why I get a craving for carrots when I am tired like that...
