Met with the surgeon... what a joke!

So I have a stricture that i need removed...  

Anyway, I have been miserable for 3 weeks while I waited for this appt to get here...    I thought today was the light at the end of this tunnel...

Anywho...   The surgeon was like "what brings you here today"   He didnt take any time to review any of my info, he didnt have my xrays or any history on me...    


He was asking me questions on the stricture, like where exactly it is located and the size and stuff....   Finally, I said "THAT IS WHAT I PAY DOCTORS FOR"   (to look at tests and review things)

anyway, I am pissed...   because this visit was useless, he did say that IF surgery was the only option then he would send me to Grand Rapids (Michigan) or to Cleveland Clinic....

So now, I am waiting....   again......   I called my Crohns Dr and he is supposed to call me back tomorrow....    

I am trying not to be a jerk to them but geeze!   LEts get the show on the road...

That is just absurd...they could have at least taken the time to read your chart. I feel like we, as patients, have a right to refuse payment for visits like that. That isn't even a real appointment..

its criminal isnt it..
l have just found out i have CD and i have to wait till next week to see the Doc and find out what i need to to etc you feel like your life is out of your hands some days but i am trying to stay calm and not too stress.
And with my colonoscopy doc appointment last week i found him to be heartless, especially when i sat down and he said yourve got CD you should be sicker cant see you now have to see another specialist.. im like *** can you at least tell me something i should be doin... he said just eat what i want etc cant help..
so i am compasionate with what your going through and i tell ya if i am not happy with this CD doc i will letting him know

Something similar happened to me. I was in the hospital ER with a total obstruction. They called a couple surgeons but none would come in for a consult because it was Thanksgiving weekend. After a 7 day stay and then test after test they sent me to a surgeon.  I assumed so that I could schedule the surgery. But it was more like an interview than meeting with a doctor. He just wanted me to know that if I  needed a surgeon he was the man to do it.  I was baffled.  Finally when I had had enough and actually had the surgery I went to Cleveland Clinic.

Thanks everybody.... I think I will pay them like $5 a month until I pay them off... Slow play it.... Thoughts?

I'd go to the Cleveland Clinic website and schedule an appointment w/a CC colorectal surgeon. You will get in quicker and get a better, more experienced surgeon. No doubt in my mind about that at all.

Altho I ended up not needing surgery, I had an appointment w/in 10 days of my requesting an appointment via their website.

2 years ago when i went to see a surgeon he told me that i did not need surgery. I left the office crying because i had 2 obstructions. That was a Tuesday on Friday i recieved a call from him personally telling me how sorry he was that he did not look at any of my test results ahead of time and that after looking at them and talking to a doctor at Barnes hospital that they decided i needed surgery right away that it could not wait. I did not go to him for the surgery i went over to Barnes and the surgeon over there done a great job. I know how you feel it is frustrating. Good luck and dont give up. Agree with Barbz...
There are good and bad ones.
Luckily I have a good G.P and a good G.I.
I combine their strengths and weaknesses.
During an obstruction,a Dr. has to be good
or I'm throwing things.

that is terrible! I hate it when I get the interview! I saw a new GI and he read up on me before I came to him. It was nice. He did not review my scope though and he said he would. Karen

I'm in Northern MI, what about you? Try to check this guy's qualifications, and experience with strictures, and get another opionion if you aren't sure if surgery is needed. I'm sorry you are going through this. It's hard enought to absorb a new diagnosis of Crohn's, and then to add surgery on top of it is really hard!

Then he probably turned around and billed you some outrageous fee! The first gastro doctor that I saw here in the Quad Cities, told me the only way that I would get better was to have my colon removed. Are you kidding me? That was three years ago and my new doctor has since put me on Humira. He, does not want to operate...Amazing what we pay for and the service we receive.
