Hi everyone,
I have had really sore eyes for the past week, the whites of my eyes are red raw and the pain when i am in light is excruciating so it finally got the better of me yesterday and off I went to the docs, she checked my eyes out and sent me immediately to the eye specialist who confirmed I have terrible inflamation in both eyes and needed cortisone eye drops and back to the eye specialist next week. Both the specialist and my regular doc say this is crohns related and have also had a major break out of mouth ulcers. Now after being thrilled about being off all my meds after the ileostomy its now looking like i will have to go back on crohns meds again. I cant believe this is happening. Sometimes I feel as though I must have done something terrible in a past life to cop this all the time. I am sooooo over this lousy disease. Thanks for listening once again guys. I have heard of those problems and had the mouth sores but didn't know eyes could get so bad. Mine have gone blurry and I need stronger glasses but didn't know about the other things that can happen. Hope things get better soon.

I'm so sorry. I certainly share your frustration. I have had very mild eye inflammation a couple of times. The first time, just before I was diagnosed with Crohn's, I had a terrible cold and was blowing my nose all of the time. It soon looked like I had blown so hard that I burst a blood vessel in my eye. I ended up going to an opthomalogist, who told me of its assocition with Crohn's disease and gave me drops to use. It has happened twice in the four years since I've had my diagnosis. Most recently, I had a bit of reddening in one eye. It didn't hurt, but it looked bad. The doc gave me drops again and said I should always have such symptoms looked at by a doctor. He said the symptoms to be of most concern is when there is extreme redness under upper or lower lids. Apparently this can lead to serious vision problems.

I am apparently heading into a flare - have been having mysterious and painful swelling, tenderness and stiffness in my lower right ankle and periodic migratory arthritic knee pain for 3 months. Most recently, I've started having a string of mouth sores and one bout with eye redness. My stomach has just started cramping in the last week, though that may be related to all of the preps I've had to drink in the last week for my colonoscopy and small bowel exam.

I hope you get some relief soon. I am likely (and reluctantly) to start Remicade in the next month. And hope to stave off a severe flare. (I ended up with an emergency resection for a blockage in 2005 after 4 mos of increasing symptoms that no doctor put together!)

Crohn's sucks!

My eyes certainly feel a little more blurry since i been going through the mill in the last few weeks. Im generally attributing this to the pred etc. Not too much to worry about, im short-sighted and feel my eyesight is jsut a little more blurry than usual when not weraing my specs... hopefullY this will normalise a bit more once i adjust to the drugs, im on quite high dosage at the minute........

I get this eye thing also, the corner of my eyes are always red and itchy and the white sometimes is all red :S
I also get blisters in my mouth..

Chron's is so much fun you never know what you are going to get next confused

Hope the eye drops help you and you feel better..

I've gotten iritis since my early twenties, long before my cd showed up. But it was a case of uncontrollable iritis that led to my cd diagnosis. I never used to take it too seriously but now know it is a very serious eye condition. Take the cortisone drops, keep your eye appointments as they will watch for cataracts and stuff. Not to scare you, but iritis is the 3rd leading cause of blindness I read somewhere. I believe that's if it's left untreated, as if anyone could stand the pain for long. Good luck with it. I remember they gave me another eye med one time to help with the sensitivity to light that's so painful.

Around the time of my first crohn's symptoms I developed iritis an inflammation of the iris in both eyes.  Take a balloon and twist it in two, that is how my iris looked or so I was told.  I could not see, my vision was so blurred.  I was immediately sent to a specialist who precribed special drops and after a few days my iris's did return to normal. 

My eyes were okay for years but last year I developed dry eyes and have been instilling gel drops since.  The dehydration caused by excessive diarrhea doesn't help.

I totally understand. That eye inflammation is SO painful. It's horrible when it hurts to even open your eyes. Those eye drops are amazing. Cleared mine up pretty quickly. Hope you start feeling better.
