Crohn's and heartburn

I normally take omeprazole to prevent heartburn, but since my insurance ran out I have not been able to afford it. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for something cheaper to tide me over until then or advice to help alleviate symptoms until my father's COBRA kicks in?

The insurance process is going a little slowly, but there may be hope with my university's insurance OR Tenncare. Not sure yet though. I haven't heard anything from my DHS case worker in a week or two...

I just hope it takes effect before I run out of birth control. The hormonal changes do some pretty nasty things to me, but I don't think there is a home remedy for this haha.

Mylanta? Over the counter stuff? Just keep alot of it around and do not eat heartburn foods. Of course I have noticed even a sprite will help with my heartburn.

I wasn't even aware I could take those things honestly. I haven't had to worry about alternatives until now except for with headaches and avoiding NSAID's.
I will definitely make a trip to the drugstore today. Thank you guys!

Don't know if they're cheaper, but I've taken digestive enzymes (from health food store) for nearly 20 yrs. for heartburn. I've noticed that many Crohnies use them. I know my son notices a difference when he takes them. Like probiotics, there are many brands available. We use Ultra-Zyme by Nature's Plus. I just checked online and found the bottle of 180 for $20.14. That's cheaper than I'm getting them at my health food store, even with shipping....

You can try Pepcid. Ask you GI to give you some birth control samples to hold you over if your insurance runs. I haven't filled a script for bc in years. I just get the samples from the doc.

Never heard of the apple thing. I'll try it next time and see if it works.
