Ever since I started using the Canesa suppositories, I have begun having bloody mucous and blood in my BM's.  No pain, except in my stomach.  I tried stopping using them for a week but still get the blood.  I also still have the over-production of mucous coated BM's and sometimes when I use the bathroom, that's all I get is mucous globs.  I've increased my Prednisone up to 10mg a day now (I was in process of weaning off).  I'm beginning to get concerned about this, it's a new symptom for me.  Being concerned causes me to feel anxious which in turn causes stress which is not good for my Crohns.  Any ideas or suggestions?????  confused

I would make an appointment with your GI. I had big problems with mucous for a long time, I tried all kinds of natural at-home remedies and nothing worked.

My problems began with bloody and mucousy D.   Actually wasn't diagnosed with crohn's until the C diff made the crohn's out of control.  None of the normal crohn's meds were working and they couldn't figure out why.  Well I got a second opinion who found the c diff.  (thank god!) Now I'm on antibiotics and am starting to get better.  Make sure they do a stool test for this and make sure you refrigerate it!  I was tested for Cdiff several times but was never told to refrigerate it.  When my second doctor did, it came back positive.  And I finally got my answer.

The Canasa supp never worked for me. I remember doing the Rowasa enema's several years back. I am sorry for the pain and frustration with trying to figure out which meds work at which times of inflamation. I am curious how long you have been on Humira and how it seems to be working?

I've had tons of experiance with this...it's basically a result of proctitis (inflammation of the rectom caused by your CD), I've had the best results with cortifoam enemas, nothing else has ever touched those issues other than cortifoam and the sooner you nip it in the bud with the cortifoam, the quicker it will heal (from my experiance).

tinygo, I've been on the Humera for almost 2-yrs now.  I've been on and off the Entocort during that time and most recently had to resort to Prednisone.  My GI doc tells me she wants to have me do the injection every week now instead of every other week.  We'll see what happens.  I haven't really had any bad side effects from it.  It just hurts like he%$ going in for me.  This Cortifoam that everyone is talking about sounds like a good thing for me to try.  I'm going to mention that to my GI doc.  I have some really good bum cream that my GI doc gave me, it's at home though so I'll have to get back to you on that question.  good luck and I hope you have good success with the Humera.  :)

Thanks for responding and I'm glad your doing so well on the Humira. I had been taking Entocort & Asacol but was able to come off them when I started Humira. Again I've only had 6 doses.  It burned like heck going into my leg. I thought it would really burn my stomach since I had just had surgery about 4 weeks before I took the first 4 injections I wasn't looking forward to the stomach shots, but the legs were worse for me. I am on the pens. I really hope I don't have to start  back taking the Entocort or Asacol. I am still taking the purinethol too. Weekly doses of Humira don't seem fun either.  Sorry.

tinygo. The name of the cream for your bum is Calmoseptin. mh gi doc gave me samples. its good stuff.

Thank you ! I will check with my GI and also look it up.  I have tried several different creams but the perianal crohn's is awful!

Canasa supp. have a known side effect of bloody stool. Have you asked your doctor about this? The cautions say to seek medical attention immediately if you have that side effect. The mucous is usually a reaction to bacteria in the gut. Have you tried probiotics? Culturelle is a recommended probiotic for intestinal diseases and might be worth a try.

Thank you "Keeper". I will certainly be talking to my GI doc next week. She's been out of the country this past month so I haven't been able to contact her. It did seem as though the Canasa suppos. caused more problems then they helped. Nice to know it's not just me.
