Been a while since I've posted here, I've been really busy and feeling better for the most part, up until about a week ago. I don't have any symptoms other than pain (and blood once), but my stomach pain is back seems to be slowly getting back to as bad as it used to be. :( I've been a bit nauseous after eating too, but so far managing to keep everything down. Does this sound to you guys like I'm beginning to become tolerant to Entocort? I've been on 9mg a day for the last 4-5 months, I just had some tenderness before, but now I've got the full-blown stomach pain again. I have an appointment with my G.I. on the 20th of July, so I'm going to probably have to ask her to switch me to something else... What do you guys think the next step would be? I really don't want to take Pred and I've already had a bad reaction to Pentasa, but I haven't tried anything else so far.

Maybe 6-MP? It's an immunosuppressive, but less risk of side effects than going straight to the biologics. It can be a good choice if you don't want to be on steroids long-term. I expect you're right when you speculate that you might be losing response to Entocort. Just like prednisone, it works really well in the short term, but after 3 to 6 months, it's not much more useful than placebo for most people, so you need to move on to a maintenance medication.

Hi!

where is your Crohn's? I have the stomach,colon,lower bowl. so it does depend on where it is. I did the entocort but didn't really work for me. I've done Imuran (they took me off of it when I started remicade but took me off remicade and back on Imuran) it might be something you want to do some reasearch. Also Pantasa that work for me( not for long but I still take it with other meds) I found Provecide was the perfect med for the acid in my stomach area. I always take one before eating and I've been doing pretty good. waiting to start Humira tho.

Just an update, my GI is on vacation so I went to my family doctor and got some Tramadol for the pain, but I think I figured out the problem. It seems like I actually may have a stomach ulcer instead, I read up on it and Entocort can apparently cause them...I took some Zantac earlier and I think it may have helped, but it's hard to tell because I'm on painkillers too. I should know tomorrow. I kind of was wondering, because I didn't get my other symptoms back, just pain as if someone was burning a hole through my stomach and a bit of nausea. I'm a bit relieved!

You know you could very well be right.  When I take steroids it tears up my stomach and I always have to increase my Prilosec while on them.  Its also very common for many Crohnies to suffer with GERD/Acid Reflux too, I have to take 60mg of Prilosec or my gut is burning and soooo nauseous.  I also agree that maybe Imuran/6mp might be another med for you to think about.  Many have been able to get off the roids with these meds.  Good luck!

Have any of you ever had a pain that feels like a hole is being burnt through your stomach? That's what I've been getting, the pain isn't that different really than what I had before, but just enough that it made me wonder. I'm going to definitely talk to my doctor about switching meds though, my only real concern with a med like 6MP would be the chance of any hair loss... I've got an appointment in 9 days though, so I'll find out then!

there is no hair loss with Imuran (I think you might be thinking of MTX) I get the exact same feeling as you do.. actually having those pains right now.. so I took a graval usualy helps, but sometimes it doesn't, ending up having to go to the hospital to get morphine after throwing up for 15 hours (always hoping it'll pass and i go to sleep) It's ulcer's that I get in the high stomach area. I really suggest you ask your do about proviced and Imuran.
