3chips, could you give an update on how your situation developed?  i have a poorly functioning gallbladder but all my symptoms are very new/recent.  i am wondering if treating crohn's might help treat my gallbladder too. (i don't have stones, just a low ejection fraction).  i am scheduled to take out my gallbladder very soon and i am a little worried that it is a side-effect/flare associated with crohn's which might go away with treatment.  i have not found any good information on whether crohn's causes temporary non-gallstone gb problems (all the information addresses stones)...

Welcome to Healingwell. I had to have my gallbladder out even though there was no stones in it. When it is giving problems generally its best to just have it removed. I had just a filmy like substance that had literally divided my gb in two. Had a slight increase in diarrhea for a bit until things adjusted. Good luck!

I also had my gallbladder removed because it wasn't working at 100% and that was their best guess as to what my pain was from at the time (pre-diagnosis days).  If it's not working properly, it could be causing some of your pain, but it will be very difficult to figure out what problems are from the gallbladder and what problems are from the Crohn's.  I agree that it's best to just take it out.

They removed my gallbladder because of stones and we thought it was the cause of my pain, but turns out it was the cd and that didn't get dxd until later. I can't say I'm and worse because of no gallbladder, but recently we were trying a med to see if I was having bile salt D because of no gallbladder. I don't think I am, I think it's a flare up. Anyway, most people are fine without gallbladders and once it's gone it's one less place to worry about having problems with. That being said, I don't like unnecessary surgery, there are always risks, and unless you are really bothered by it, why rush into the decision. It will still be there to take out later if you decide it's causing your problems. Good luck!

I had my gall bladder removed 5 years ago (CD long time before that). I thought I was having another intestinal rupture because the stones hurt that much. When they discovered the gallstones, I ate EXTREMELEY careful diet for 1.5 months, then had it removed especially so I would not stone issues around the time of my wedding.
There was no significant difference in my CD before or after gall issues. I just have not had the stone pains since and that was WELL worth the lap surgery!
