I've been on imuran before, but it was almost 2 years ago. I've been back on it for the last 8 days (forgetting to take it one or 2 days during the week) but yesterday and today after I eat (like it tells me to) I take my dosage. But now I feel so dizzy, light headed, and all around crappy. Has anyone felt this way when first starting it? and does it go away once you get use to the med? any advice?

Someone was saying take it at night to avoid the side effect. Does it matter the label says to take it in the morning?

Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.

You can try starting with a lower dose, until your body adjusts some to it.

If you have started at 100mg, or two tablets a day, try just 50mg one tablet, for a week or two, then jump to 100mg.

If you are on 50mg, you can split the tablet in half, and try out 25, then move to 50 in a week or two.

The side affects should get better for you as time goes by, they should get easier.

Thank you for your advice. The tabs are 50mg and I'm suppose to take 1 and half tabs. So start tomorrow I'll take only one then a week later go back to 1 and half tabs.

I would also try taking it with dinner in the evening and see if that helps ease the side effects.

Nanners,

Is it ok to take it with dinner, even though it says with breakfest?! ever since I knew I had crohn's, I never really took my meds seriously. Until the remicade caused these arthritis type feelings. Now even parts of me have deformed. I would take my meds for 3 months or so when I flared, then feel better so I'd stop taking them. I feel it's one of the reason i am where I am with my CD and RA now. So I'm asking because I want to take my meds seriously now (I want my life back!)

If you have taken it at dinner suppose to breakfest and it was fine.I'll do that instead (would be allot easier for me anyways)

I was thinking by taking it in the evening or at night might help you avoid some of the side effects. IDES one of the mods here was the one who first suggested to me when I was taking Imuran (long ago) to take it with dinner instead of breakfast. I took 6mp (sister med) and found I had WAY less side effects by taking it at night. Hope that helps.

I have been on Imuran for a couple years now. Every once in awhile I still get these side effects, but not too often. My doctor told me that it really doesn't matter what time of the day I take it as long as I take it at the same time each day. To try to be consistent with that, hope that helps a little!!

I thought the dizzyness was one of the symptoms even with out the meds causing this I get those dizzy spells some times due to lack of rest I thought. Its like whoa take a seat till it passes. I know meds can cause this. I'm sure you can tell if there from the meds or lack of rest, now I'm not sure? Those light headedness feeling scares me some times to its like you some times feel like you are going to pass out. I'm so sorry I'm not much help on this but I sure hope the dizzyness goes away really soon.

Thanks Nanners I will for sure start to take it at dinner time tomorrow. Thanks for the advice! I guess your right as long as it's at the same time everyday regardless of the time, it should be fine!

I do get the dizzy feeling every once in awhile. I know exactly what your talking about, the needed to sit 'til it passes. But this is much more then the normal 'dizzy'. This is crappy nausea light headed dizzyness. I was ok until I ate and took the pills. Same thing yesterday..was ok until I ate and took the the pills. So I'll take everyones advice, cut down alittle and take it later at night.

Do you feel like you are smoothering when this dizzyness hits. I know I have to get seated right away or I have to lie down untill it passes you just feel like you are going to black out. I do this maybe once aweek. I can't tell you how many dinners DH & I have went out to and I could only eat a bite or to before cramping or I get nauseated this was before diagnoses and all I could do is say I'm sorry I don't know why I can't eat,I know many have done this so now we know why. I take all my meds before bed time and I probally should take them in the morning. Some times there is so much going on I don't know how to differate what is going on. Today with out having any cramps my grand daughter bumped up against my gut and talk about Ouch I have a really tender gut inside,achey by touch I'm just realizing that no matter how you feel you do not know the extremes of whats going on internally of how sick you are when you are having a good day. She didn't bump against me to hard thats just crazy.
I hope that this passes for you soon.
