I've been having pain on my right side under rib cage. The pain goes around the bottom of the ribs in back and front. At times it is very bad and other times it's just a dull aching sensation. I had an ultrasound last week and today had a CT scan. The ultrasound found no gallstones but possibly a "fatty liver".
I'm wondering if there is a relationship with Crohn's and fatty liver or any liver problems caused by autoimmune problems. My Crohn's has been in remission for about 2 years with only occasional flare-ups. I still have joint pain.
Am I alone in this or has anyone else experienced or heard about liver problems with Crohn's?

I have fatty liver but it doesn't cause me any pain.

I have pain just under the mid rib area and around belly botton and some back aching. My is due to bad stomach liesures and bad ulsers no liver problem here. I have been been spitting up blood due to this problem.

My right rib cage flares on occasion and will cause really bad pain in my ribcage. Its something that comes and goes for me. I really haven't see my doc about it yet, but plan on bringing it up in my next visit. I think in my case, its either adhesions or maybe even Costcochodritis. It sure hurts though!

I have a fatty liver. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago just before I was diagnosed with crohns. Sometimes my liver enzyme readings are elevated, as they are at the moment. I have a dull toothache sort of ache on my back, I know this is to do with my liver, Ive had it before. I no longer drink alcohol. When my liver enzymes are normal I am allowed about 7 units a week.

My understanding is that there is a link between the two. Also I am overweight and this does not help my liver.

Well I too have a Fatty Liver, Came up to reading from a CAT scan but, Otherwise don't have any problems from it...NOT that I know of anyway! Sounds like Gallbladder to me but I could be wrong....I hope u feel better!

Thanks to all of you. Still waiting for the CT scan results. Maybe it's my imagination but it seems like a lot of my problems lead back to the Crohn's or to some type of autoimmune problem.

To elexis: I too had hypothyroid and some pre-cancerous nodules. Had a thyroidectomy in 2004. Currently on Armour Thyroid 120mg

I'd ask about having the test to see how your gallbladder is functioning. I had an ultrasound and it showed fine, no stones. A year later I had a very inflammed, swollen, gallbladder that now had stones. Went a year with off an on pain, just like your describing.

Hi Laura. I think you should ask your doctor about a HIDA scan. I too was having the same sorts of pains and my ultra sounds and CT scans didn't show any gall stones. My family dr ordered the HIDA scan and it showed my gall bladder wasn't functioning. I had it out within a mo after that. I still have pains in that area off and on, however they are not near as bad. My GI said that he believes it is sesitive spots in my intestines. The scan is just an IV with this special nuclear type fluid that works its way though your gallbladder and into your liver over about three hours. It is pretty boring because you have to lay there with the machine over you.
