im getting acne at 23, im on pred and asacol.
thinking this is one of two things going on:
1) crohn's
2) stress from
opening the store and all that jazz.
im getting small pimples on my temples/back of neck and head. strange.

Could very well be the Prednisone causing the acne. Thats one of the many lovely side effects of the Pred. It should improve when you are off of it.

Its the Prednisone. While I was on it I got HORRIBLE acne. Sucked because I never had a problem with acne before. Once your off the pred it should clear up. The only problem I had with mine was I had these little itty bitty pimples on the sides of my face like close to my ears, even after the acne healed up I still had these red dots there, it took a couple months but they went away.

I am convinced there is a connection between the Asacol and acne; or more specifically oily skin. I am lucky that my UC is very well controlled by Asacol 400mg x2 2x a day. For a long time my dose was 800mg 3x a day. My skin remains extremely oily as long as I take any asacol, and as a result, prone to acne. I have experimented with quitting the Asacol. The excessive oiliness disappears and my skin clears up immediately. Unfortunately the UC returns in about
a month and takes months of 800mg 3X a day to get under control again. I know there is a connection. I only see my GI once a year now and every time we discuss the oily skin, he looks up the side effects on his Treo and says "Nope, oily skin is not a side effect". It frustrates the hell out of me. I can effectively "manage" the acne only by very conscientious treatment of washing my face multiple times a day and applying Benzoyl Peroxide after my morning shower and before going to bed. If I miss one or the other the acne returns. I also let nothing touch my face. Of course cheap clothing, pillow cases, and bath towels all get bleached by my face treatment, but I do not have UC symptoms and have very little but sometimes maddening acne at 42.
As a tip, the absolute best benzoyl peroxide treatment I've found is Daniel Kern's from Acne.org. Its comparatively inexpensive and is only 2.5% which is all you need. Most importantly, since I always need it, it is clear on your skin.
Lastly I did have acne problems as a teen, and did take Accutane which was effective. Unfortunately Accutane is now thought to be causal for UC and possible for emotional problems. If my children are unfortunate enough to have my skin problems I will not agree to Accutane treatment for them.
On the bright side, Asacol causes hair loss too, look it up on your Treo.

Prednisone gives me terrible acne on my face, back, and chest. Just one if its side effects.

I have been on Asacol for years and never had a problem with acne from it. Prednisone, yes it has caused some acne for me.

asacol and pentasa both cause acne..well it says it in the side effects..if you read all of them..i have this problem with the pentasa and its on my face and my back..i thought that when i am 32 this would finally go away!!!! Here is what helps alot...clean and clear wipes..or oxy clean wipes..or noxzema wipes..Mario Badescu glycolic foaming cleanser and proactive..its really a miracle in the bottle..

I wanted to add to this thread. As noted above, I have acne problems which I am sure relate to my regimen of Asacol for UC. I have, by accidental experiment, become convinced that I can control my Asacol-related acne with Konsol Psyllium husk. You mix it in a drink and gulp it down. There is apparently a liver/colon/skin connection. I should add that drinking more water and eating more fruit seems to help as well but the definite connection I can make is that my skin is less oily if I drink the psyllium once a day and it is FAR less oily if I drink it twice a day. I presume that the oily skin is my body trying to get rid of some components of the Asacol that it doesn't like, but the psyllium drags it out before it manifests in oily skin and acne. I want to add that my skin becomes less dependent on the Benx Perox. treatment that bleaches everything to the point that I am not sure I need it at all.

Is probably the pred. Even Entocort, especially at higher doses, tends to cause acne in my daughter.
