I'm thinking about
going to a Naturopathic doctor for my son's crohn's. I have heard that diet and anti-inflammatory supplements can help heal current problems and prevent them from reoccurring. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!

this is what i do now and have been for over a year now. i do still have my GI on retainer and check in on occasion. if you need any diagnostic tests done, he's the guy that can get it for me through my insurance. meds didnt do much for me and to me i'm getting better results doing this. it is definitely worth looking into. there is no law saying you have to go to a traditional western trained doctor to get any relief or help for this disease. contrary to what we are lead to believe, they do not always have all the answers. i think it is definitely worth something to consider and investigate but do not stop talking to your GI or stop any meds. use it, at least initially, complimentary treatment.

My friend who has UC just started going. She is very happy with the advice given and the "doc" offered to be the one to coordinate all her docs and make sure stuff was not getting missed. I think it is as with all docs, if you find a good one it is worth it.
Good luck.

Thanks you both. Congratutions Crazy Harry for going that route and avoiding surgery. That's really inspiring.... That's what I'm thinking that I would use our Naturopathic doctor in conjunction with our GI. When I speak to my GI on Monday, I'm going to discuss with her my thoughts. I think initially we need to get him back on track with meds but would like to move on with natural, preventative care if possible.

I credit my naturopath with guiding my diet choices so that I was able to avoid most Crohn's symptoms for years, even before I was diagnosed. When I was diagnosed, the SCD plan was nearly what I was already doing except for a couple of things that were pushing my carbohydrates a bit high. Naturopaths know much more about
diet and nutrition than a regular MD and you can get a lot of help from that. It does require a commitment to altering your diet and taking your supplements to get the benefits. That said, it is difficult to tell someone who is very ill to take up a radical change of diet and adopt a new supplement regime. It is a stress and that could make them worse rather than better. I'm afraid that I think that this works best for someone who is not seriously ill to start with. I have seen some examples of people who have turned serious illness around this way, but there are lots who can't make it work - I don't know what makes the difference.
