naltrexone for fistulas?

I have a 3 year old son with severe Crohn's, they think. We are at the point that the only thing that stops the severe bleeding is Prednisolone. The next drug to try for us through our regular docs is Remicade.

We made the decision to try LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) before doing remicade and will be starting it next week. My son does not have any fistulas and it is my understanding that LDN isn't an immediate knock out the inflammation like Remicade or Pred. It is something that some people seem to have benefited from, when included with a strict diet, getting your Vit, D levels up and eradicating any Candida problems. We are desperate to find something that helps us get my sons inflammation in check that is not an immunosuppresant, especially a bliologic.

He has been on Pred for almost a year now and we have just quit taking Imuran. Over the course of his immune system being suppressed he has gotten Aermonas Hydrophillia - a flesh eating bacteria, and C. Diff. We have decided to commit all the time and resources necessary (including food prep) to try to give LDN a good chance. It is my understanding that it takes that kind of time commitment and patience if it works at all. For us we need to at least try to get off of the Immune-suppressing roller coaster at his young age.

I will update these boards with our story as we try LDN for all those out there who are interested. Look into possibly getting a vitamin d test for your son, something our research university docs never did, and getting experienced with a diet like the SCD diet. Diet is one thing we can control.
