How long until post-op tenderness goes away?

Hi, I had a small bowel resection (ileocecectomy) on 7/30. It's nearly 5 weeks post-op and I'm still experiencing quite a bit of tenderness in my entire right-abdominal area. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for the tenderness to go away? (I don't see my surgeon or GI doc for another 2 weeks.) Thanks!

Hey Blossom,
i would say that the tenderness is normal 5 weeks post-op.
I had a resection done Sept 07 and as I recall was tender till I saw my surgeon 6 weeks post-op.
It is a major surgery, so give yourself a chance to heal.
Good luck with your Dr.s appts - discuss it with them if you feel concerned about it.

I had abdominal surgery on 7/28 and I am still really tender.

Thanks for your replies. I'm glad to know that the tenderness is normal. Strangely enough, after only a few more days have passed, the tenderness is suddenly already subsiding!
