Help! Amylase level elevated...Pancreatitis?

I have been out of the hospital for less than a week because of colitis and c-diff. Over the last few days that I started solids I have been getting bad stomach aches. I have seen that my amylase level yesterday was 127 and the norm is 97. I haven't heard from my doc yet, but I'm wondering if I'm going to end up back in the hospital. In the meantime, is drinking water or other clear liquids ok?

I was on imuran for a week and we stopped it as soon as the c-diff infection started. So I wasn't on it long, and was off of it before the pain began.

You can get pancreatic inflammation from bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Pancreatitis usually shows several times the normal level of amylase, so a slightly elevated level is not due to that. Drinking water or liquids is fine, but avoid sugary drinks. You might get some improvement from just drinking liquids for a day or two because that would allow the bacteria to be cleared form the SI - if that is the cause.
