Getting my first Cimzia injection this week and nervous

You may remember I was having trouble getting my Cimzia meds insurance didn't want to approve me but finally

did thanks to doc appealing it.  I got it shipped to me last week.  I'm going Wednesday for first 2 injections.

I'm so nervous about this. I reacted to Remicade years ago and it landed me in the hospital so I'm just really

nervous to be going on this.  It's my only hope though. Please say a prayer. 

And those on it, how long does it start working??   I'm home from work today with my crohn's giving me

trouble so I hope this kicks in right away.

i just had my 4th shot and I havent felt it working yet, but i'm sure it works differently for different people.

The shots really dont hurt which is the good thing...and i have had only a few small side effects

Don't be too worried. Are you getting a nurse to come to your house? cuz I do. She does it so that I don't even feel it, SQ on the stomach. A LOT less pain than the Humira. Those Humira injectable pens hurt like he##.

As to feel it's effectiveness, on certain parts, it is within one or two days, especially after the loading dose. Now you stated that you had a bad reaction with the Remicade, the upside to both Humira and Cimzia is that neither of these has mouse protiens that can cause some people to react to Remicade. I hope this is the case.

I hope you don't have any issues with it - I reacted to Remicade after awhile but haven't had an issue with Humira or Cimzia. I did my loading 2 shots in the office just in case, though.

I have been on it loading dose + 1 month and haven't noticed any effects yet but my GI said it can take 3-6 months for many people.

Aww thank you everyone!! I go tomorrow afternoon and oh my am I nervous!! I made my husband ask his boss if
he could leave early tomorrow to go with me!! lol I'm such a baby!! hehehe I am going downtown to my doctors
office. His main nurse will give me my lesson and make sure I don't have a reaction.

So you have to give these injections in the stomach?? Oh great just make me more nervous than I already am. I think I'm going to cancel this appointment now. lol I'm going to be up all night now....pace...pace...pace.... lol

I take it you didn't take Humira...? It's similar, inject into thigh or tummy. I do it in my thigh but have tried it both ways. My nurse wanted me to just do it in my thigh when I went in for the first dose.

Honestly - I completely stressed out over starting Remicade, and Humira, but this med is easy to administer and doesn't hurt. Humira HURTS. It's easier than getting a flu shot. Don't stress (easier said than done, I know!).

Like the others have said the injections really do not hurt much at all. I had a bad reaction to Remicade also, but no reaction at all with Humira or Cimzia except for at the injection site which is really nothing at all. I prefer the stomach injections to the thigh ones too. They go in more easily.

I have been on Cimzia now for 3 months. I took my last shot this past Wednesday and I think I notice a bit of a difference this week (I hope, I hope.) I lost effectiveness to Humira and got into a bad flare starting in May. I have been on prednisone two times since then. I finally tapered off completely last Friday and I think I see some improvement. What I am trying to say is that you may not see immediate results. So keep at it even if you don't. It very well could take a few months.
