Remicade today, yay!!

Hey guys, I promised I would let you all know how my infusion went today - - I'm pleased to report it went swimmingly!! My friend Becky came and kept me company, I went in at 7:30 and was done by 12 (the infusion didn't start until 9:00). I'm feeling good, I didn't have any pre-meds so I'm not too sleepy, no ill-effects really apart from being a bit tired but I think that's mainly because I couldn't sleep last night, I was so excited!

So I guess now I just wait and see how things go! The nurse was so lovely, she came and visited me (my gastro's assistant) and said not to worry, if the remi doesn't work there are other options for me. My second infusion is two weeks from today.

I should be able to contact my surgeon now and organise to have my mushroom drain and seton taken out.

Now I'm just at home chilling out with my friends watching InBruge! turn

Glad to hear it. I hope the remicade works wonders for that fistula.

I’m feeling good!! The skin tags are already shrinking slightly and the fistula hole (which is huge) is getting slightly smaller, after only 2 days!! I don’t have to get up at 3am and 5am to be sick on the loo now! I called my surgeon and he says he will try and take the mushroom and seton out after my 2nd infusion. So I have my 2nd infusion on the 19th, and an appointment to see my surgeon on the 21st to have the drains removed. He is going to try and take them out in his clinic but if they don’t come out willingly I will have to go via the hospital (unfortunately) for sedation. Here’s hoping the mushroom comes out of its own free will!! It’s been in there for so long that I’m a bit pessimistic about it coming out easily…..the skin has all closed in around where the big cavity once was, but it feels like the mushroom head is quite close to the surface now.

I'm so glad! Another remicade success it seems like. I am cheering for you.

Hoping you'll have a long term remission with Remicade!

Ahh thanks, PV! I am hoping so too!

Things aren't 100% back to normal (in that I still have pain sometimes), but it's only day 2, and I've noticed such a difference! No getting up at night (!!!) I guess the deeper layers of ulceration will take time to heal. I am good at being patient now, after having this abscess healing for over a year....

I can't wait to see how it goes with the mushroom drain, I hope it comes out easily. The seton I am quite happy to leave, I don't even notice it at all, but the mushroom is a big thick tube! I won't know myself if I am tube and seton-free!

HOORAY....wooohoooo PHOEBE! Finally....ahhh..relief has come....Remicade is great! I am so happy for you..thats the best news i heard all day! I am glad you had a friend there..it makes the time go by so much faster...interesting she is a Becky...as am I! Cheers!
