Inflammation of the Small Bowel & Mesentery?

Ok, here's the scenario..

Dx with CD 4 years ago. Failed all the lovely drugs (I think in my siggy), including Remicade, Aisle 12, Humira, and refused Tsyabri (No Cimzia because of reaction to Humira). Decided enough was enough. I have Crohn's Colitis, so my disease is in my rectum and sigmoid. Had the surgery. FULLY expected to lose my whole colon and came out with just losing 1/2 my rectum and my sigmoid. I now have a colostomy (likely irreversable, but anything is possible these days!) Took me a few months to get into the swing of it all. Finally adjusted about 2 months ago very well. Started Flagyl & Cipro daily for maintenance therapy (helps prevent constipation too!)

Ok, so last Friday, I went to ER with stabbing lower right quadrant pain. Something felt VERY off. Everytime I pee'd, I would feel like I just had surgery in my abdomen. They would push my left side and my right side hurt. They ALL thought it was appendicitis. Run CT, they can't even find the appendix because my SMALL BOWEL AND MESENTARY are swollen around it! WHAT?!??!?!

I was admitted for 5 days (still not sure why), jacked up on steroids (which my surgeon promptly dropped - not without doing some lovely damage - I've had few dizzy awful spells, cravings, greasy, etc). They cannot find a REASON for the inflammation? ALL my blood work is NORMAL. But, I still have this pain every so often. He wants me to follow with the GI and get scoped and possibly a barium enema.

I guess I have a few questions..
1) Could a stomach flu cause THAT kind of pain (I needed dilaudid to break through!) AND have a CT show inflammation?
2) Is there a link with inflammation of the mesentery and using Remicade/Aisle 12/Humira??

I'm quite confused...very worried as my surgeon led on that SOMETHING was up? But, I don't know what!

Sounds like your Crohns may be flaring. I doubt the Remicade or other meds would cause this, if anything they would have made it somewhat better. Good luck!

The surgeon swears it's not though because all my blood work is normal?  Can your bloodwork be normal and you are still flaring?  I'm just at a complete loss.

And, what I meant by Remicade causing this.. is...the long-term side effects?  I know Lymphoma and RA are known issues...

Kaycie, yes, it's definitely possible to be flaring yet have completely normal bloodwork.  That's happened to several people on here, including me.  Doctors *should* know this, but not all do.
