Whoever told you this is exactly right! Check out this link. It's from the CDC, so I knew it would be okay to post...
http://www.bt.cdc.gov/agent/smallpox/vaccination/live-virus.asp
While the page is specifically about the smallpox vaccine, there are general statements about live virus vaccines. The first 5 bullets under "What is a "live virus" vaccine?" are especially pertinent. It also says "Other live virus vaccines used include measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox." Notice the use of the words "usually", "sometimes", "for most people".
Finally, I believe most of the last paragraph is pertinent for any live virus vaccine.
I couldn't disagree more. I don't think we should be posting links to one website that talks about
one specific thing and then generalizing it to include other things. The prudent thing here is to ask a doctor, preferably an infectious disease specialist, not post links and speculate about
micro-biology.
The last paragraph talks about the smallpox vaccine and only smallpox vaccine. I can find no reference to all live vaccines in that paragraph. Perhaps if you find a reputable website that says you shouldn't vaccinate a child for MMR who's mother has eczema I'll reconsider - but my first point still stands.
