Benedryl with Remicade

Is it a normal practice to give Benedryl with Remicade?  I get my first infusion this Friday and I know Benedryl in it's pill form knocks me out for a good 8 hours.  I can only imagine what an IV infusion of it will do to me.

They give me Bendrayl (25 mg capsules) and plus tylenol before the infusion. It is not done through IV at least for me.

Mine isn't through the iv either. I take my premeds (benedryl and tylenol) at home. So I don't have to wait a half hour after they give them to me to start the remicade.

Same with me,I get the premeds,then they start my IV.
Then they order my Remicade.(thats when I eat lunch)
My infusion center won't order the Remicade until I have an IV.
Then I order my warm blanket and go right to sleep...zzzzzzzzz

I'm on a different infusion for CD but it is common practice to give tylenol and bendrayl in capsule form at least half an hour before we start the infusion.

My son gets Benedryl (and other premeds) through the IV before he gets his Remicade infusion.  But he gets his infusion in a pediatric infusion center, so maybe that is different.  Good luck to you.  Remicade has been a lifesaver for us.

Yes, it's a normal practice to help prevent allergic reactions.  I took it in pill form but it still didn't keep me from having reactions and having to stop getting Remicade.
