Has anyone tried taking Wellbutrin for Crohn's? I'd read that it's shown promise so far and is being prescribed off label, so I had my doctor prescribe some. I noticed almost no effect with 150mg but have felt a lot better since he upped it to 300mg. It's relatively cheap, too (I don't have insurance). I've been able to cut my daily immodium dose in half. Just wondering if anyone else has any experiences with this drug because I'm relatively new to it. (Incidentally, I haven't noticed any of the other stuff it's supposed to do - antidepressant, increase libido, encourage weight loss, etc.)

This was a popular subject on the forum a couple of years ago. You might like to do a search.

Has it helped any other symptoms, or just the D?

I've been on Wellbutrin for months now, not for Crohns though. 300mg, I haven't noticed any difference with my Crohns.

I just started taking it. Quite frankly my Crohn's is doing it's own thing right now, and I've only taken it two days. My mood is better. I still feel alert
and less anxious about
things which I guess you could say makes my Crohn's a little better when you think about
it.

I took it for a few weeks and it made me so constipated. Maybe it is good for people with diarrhea. I am prone to constipation not diarrhea. I really struggle with antidepressants and the effect they have on my colon. On the mayo clinic website, they said they have seen cases of colitis from people who take zoloft and nexium. Kind of makes you wonder what these do to our systems. I am back on cymbalta. At least it doesn't constipate me but I don't like it all that much.

I have taken Wellbutrin XL 300mg for years as an antidepressant. It does not seem to have helped or hindered my intestinal difficulties, but it makes me less crazy. :)

How does it compare to Prozac? I started taking prozac years ago and swear that it seemed like it was helping ... but then last year while still taking it I became much worse, so perhaps it was just the placebo effect

i tried to do a search but all i got were promotional links. maybe i don't know how to search this site very well. :(
and no, i haven't noticed a substantial relief of other symptoms except diarrhea. i still have pain/discomfort, and upper GI symptoms like nausea and heartburn. but hey, if i can function better without being near a bathroom, that's good enough. it hasn't improve my appetite and apparently it's associated with lack of appetite and weight loss and so not given for mental issues to anyone with anorexia or such problems. it has caused pretty frequent headaches, but i think i solved that by taking half a dose twice a day rather than one large time released dose.
that's so interested that people seem to be saying it's helped them a lot with depression and other mental issues. i really don't see much of a difference at all with what it's supposed to do. but good for you guys! :)
