Nanners,

So after your 1st resection you were free and clear of all crohns signs in your entire system too?

How soon after your 1st resection did you start to flare?

Is that when you immediately started your maintenance plan, once you knew something was brewing?

How soon after beginning your maintenance therapy did you have to have your 2nd operation?

What drugs did you use to start your maintenance therapy?

I did not take meds after my first resection because the GI I had at the time told me I didn't need to anymore. I didn't start taking meds again until after the second resection that occured 3 years after the first. I was even told by this GI after resection #2 I no longer needed meds, he has since been fired. I saw a new GI (my current dr) and he told me no, you should always be on maintainence meds and I started Asacol and have been on it since. They said if I were to have another resection it could be dangerous for me because one it could cause short bowel syndrome and I also could have alot problems because I have a problem with adhesions. Hope that helps.

Oh I started to flare, probably fairly soon after my resection (6-8 months) because nausea was a big problem for me, but I kept thinking I was having an ulcer or something like that. Finally saw my GI and they did tests and saw another stricture at the reconnection site.

Bwwwaaaa!!!!  I'm so sorry to hear that you flared so soon and developed a stricture.  Ugh!  I hope you stay well, 4 EVER!!!  :-)    Thanks for your reply.

I see my GI next Monday and we will be discussing maintenance therapy.

Oh, were you able to return to a real normal diet after you healed from surgery since your system was clear of all the nasties for a time?

No, my diet and most who have surgery does change afterwards. I find some foods upset my system more now. I live on a low residue diet all the time now. Good luck!
