Hey Everybody....
My daughter Cata ended her 6th. week of total enteral nutrition taken orally through the day (no GN tube)
and the labs are in.....
***Sed rate went down from 53 to 3 (almost invisible!)
***All the chemistry is NORMAL.
***She put on 6 pounds in 6 weeks.... and they are NOT fat... needs new school uniforms.
***She is slowly incorporating food , counting calories of solid vs. formula (500 cal. of the 1900 solid the rest liquid the first week.)
***Winner formula for kids: SPLASH E028 elemental formula. (Best taste and comes in cute juice like cartons that friends will not make fun of)
***We are watching what she eats, staying with proteins mainly.
If any person needs advice in how we implemented this with their kids, let me know... I will be very happy to help and give them all the tips. Doing this orally helped her keep an optimum energy level through the day, enjoy all her activities (and believe me they are many) and even sleep over at her friend's homes.
Thanks to all of you who gave us your support. This forum is our CD extended family....

Wow, sounds like that really worked for her.
I haven't been around this forum for long, how bad was her disease prior to starting this dietary regimen?

She had been flaring since june (2nd. flare), with 7 to 10++ BM a day, pure water, bad cramps during and after food, with any food, gas, bloating, very low energy, muscle pain, head aches. Prednisone did not work. The GI was about
to put her on Remicade when I got this book from the public library:Beat Crohn's: Getting to Remission with Enteral Nutrition by MArgaret Oppenheimer.
The GI was skeptical we could do it, but WE DID!!!
so..... that's the story in a nut shell

Way to go!
My doc doesn't believe in diets much, although she did tell me about
the SCD diet. I asked about
enteral nutrition, and she put me on remicade (which I reacted very badly to and can never have again).
The book I was talking about
in the other thread ('The New Eating Right for the Bad Gut' by James Scala) suggests enteral nutrition or even total parenteral nutrition for extreme flares. That's the way I want to go if I ever need to.
Hope your daughter continues to do well. I love hearing about
success stories :)

That's wonderful news! I'm so glad I saw it before going off for Thanksgiving. (I like all your little happy, smiley people, too.) I bet Cata is happy she's going to get a little turkey tomorrow (or whenever you folks like best for the holiday) along with her Splash. Happy holidays to you and all.

It truly is fantastic news! Praise the Lord! I am so happy for you both! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!
I think Margaret Oppenheimer's book, "Beat Crohn's" is beginning to educate parents and doctors to yet another option for treatment!
