Has anyone ever experienced cramps from digestive enzymes? I was doing so well and now I am trying to figure out why the cramps are back today. Ugh! That is one change I have done this week. I also had cranberries on Tuesday night, but that seems too long ago to be giving me problems. I have not been constipated.

Sorry can't help but will be interested in replies as my husband has always bugged me to take digestive enzymes. He takes them but I figure I take enough other stuff as it is.

I haven't tried them yet, I just ordered some though. I know one of them they say you shouldn't take if you have IBD, I think it is the lipase but can't remember exactly, another guy said go ahead and take it, The pain won't last long and it is actually a good thing because it means it is cleaning out your ulcerations so they can heal, I wish I could remember who said it and where, I know it was on the internet!

I take digestive enzymes and find they really help with my digestion. To prevent any cramping I just eat a little bit before I take them instead of having them on an empty stomach!

I haven't really had much luck with the Digestive Enzymes and I have tried a few. My husband who has what I think is IBS started taking them and have found them helpful in his case.

Well, in retrospect, I think it was the roughage I had and not the enzymes. I am not sure the enzymes helped but I don't think they caused the cramps. I think it was the dried cranberries I had. It took two days to give me the cramps but that is the only thing it could have been. Over thanksgiving when I just ate carbs and meat, all was good. That isn't a healthy diet though. You need your fruits and veggies. I changed my check up CT scan and sigmoid scope to January, so maybe they will see how things are going inside. In the meantime, I will have to be very careful about the fruits and veggies that I eat. Sigh.... Thanks for the dialogue.

jeanneac I am curious, what kind of enzymes are you taking? I just started taking some pancreatic enzymes this week and they are giving me insane gas :( but I think they are helping b/c BMs have been less. I have noticed some cramping on and off but in my case I think it may be the gas.

Multi enzyme, high potency vegetarian formula. I believe the brand is Natural Factors. They were kind of expensive. Just in case, I don't think I will take them anymore. Boy, I've wasted a ton of money on these kind of things that don't work! I do like my VSL #3 though.

Isn't papaya said to have digestive enzymes in it?

Yes, I believe it is papain. It digests protein, I believe.
