I think I have E.coli. I ate some steak. It seemed ok, but I am thinking it was bad.

I have watery diarrhea and I am very worried. I started Humira in early November, and I felt I went into remission. A week before the diarrhea started, I tapered to 6mg of Entocort and stopped Flagyl. I am wondering now what I should do.

I have been sick the last few days. I have been tired too. I paged my GI, but she is not getting back to me.

What do you think I should do? Go and get a stool sample to see if anything is up? I was in a 15 month flare up until I started Humira last month. Now, I am in trouble. Help me, please.

Any advice?

Mabye see your GI...steak can be hard on some people (even many without a bowel disease have difficulties with steak), it could be coincidental too, maybe your flare is getting worse or maybe you have a gut bug right now and instead you're associating the steak as being the culprit, or maybe it is the steak...I'd go to the doc doc, better to be safe than sorry.

So sad to hear you feeling so bad...couple of questions...is it vomiting too? Fever? If so, how high? (higher fevers are seen in the bacterial causes as opposed to viral noro/calici which tend to have lower grade fevers if at all.)

BTW, calici-/noro- viruses are quite easy to transfer and catch. It only takes 1 - 10 virus particles to infect as opposed to some that take 10,000 virus particle to infect one cell )

You say you are having D, just make sure you stay rehydrated. Call you Docs service again and explain the volume loss and see if they want you to go into urgent care, ER, or wait until tomorrow and get a first appointment that day (Monday)

JMOHO, I don't think is was the steak, but maybe somethng else you touched earlier on...

If it is a virus, what will they give me?

The problem is I have no insurance. I cannot get an appointment right away. I would have to go to the ER and wait probably 15 hours to get help, which is hard.

As for a "fever", I thought I had a fever, and then I checked my temperature. It was 98.4.

Tomorrow, I have an appointment with an optomologist. I have a form to get a blood test and other tests. I think I will just check off the boxes for the stool tests to speed this up.

If viral, there is nothing to give to you...just only to watch for dehydration...which is always something to look out for...Oh, the viral thing is also usually self limiting and will end withing 24-48 hrs. Could be like PB4 said, just a bit hard on the system, "and it too shall pass" wink

Do you have an "Urgent Care" facility in your area? Most of the time the waits are nowhere near as long as an ER and usually take people without insurance for a "reasonable" fee...just a thought...

I personally cannot eat steak myself. I would give it a few days and if things don't improve or get worse take yourself to the ER. Sometimes not everything is related to Crohns. Could very well be you have a bug that will take a few days to work thru or the steak was just to hard on your system. Hope you get feeling better soon.
