I'm starting methotrexate tomorrow and when i went to go pick it up at the pharmacy he said that he did not have the preservative free injectable metho. I was confused. He says it's the same drug b ut the preservative free is better but works the same. Problem is he says is that the preservative free one is hard to come by. Now i'm scared. Anyone heard of this?

i think what he means is.. preservatives keep it Potent or fresher longer. Some people just dont like preservatives and maybe allergic to some.

I really have no idea what he's talking about
. I didn't have a problem getting mine, and they never asked me which kind I needed/wanted.
I get 4 vials at a time that last me a month, I have no idea if I have presevatives, or not in mine.

the preservative free vial is just a bit smaller
I have had both and cannot tell the difference other then the preservative free vial require a bit more care in temp regulation.

I didn't know there was difference either. I called me doc and told him because he's going to be injecting me. He just told me to bring in the vial so he can look at it. I'm going today to get my first injection and i'm scared. Do you all give yourself injection or do you have the doc or home health care nurse administer it to you? I have a phobia of sticking myself with needles. This is not going to go over well. lol

I have my mom do it for me. Its a very very small needle, I don't even feel it while she is doing it. It is a little bit sore for maybe 5 mins after it's done, then I feel nothing at all. It's weird, Metho is the only medication I wasn't worried about
taking. Humira and Remicade scared the crap outta me.
