Scalp sores or asthma during flare?

Okay, so just when my GI doc has agreed to start lowering my current dose of 55mg of prednisone, my asthma (which I usually dont' have a problem with) is aggravated and then I've got these sores on my scalp now. I've had them before and went to my GP about five years during a flare and never thought they might be b/c of Crohn's. Has any one ever had them. Good thing is my sores in my mouth and esophogus are going away. Can't say same for my external or internal hemerrhoids!!

So, asthma or scalp sores?

Sorry but I am so glad to hear someone else has this, I had thought it was just really bad dry scalp/dandruff. I have had it for the past few years, for me it is like layers of dry skin like cradle cap, but really I am a very clean person and use my nails to scrub my scalp when I shampoo. It won't go away, I treat my scalp about every 3 days with carrot oil before I get in the shower. I put the oil on my scalp and then use my fingernails or a comb to brush my scalp and remove all of the dry skin, this prevents it from turning into sores. The only time mine went away was when I went on prednisone and as soon as I came off it came right back. I don't know if it is necessarily crohns related, I was starting to think maybe an eczema like allergic reaction to something.

Your sound differnt than mine, more like eczema like my son's. Mine break out just like the sores in my mouth (I have one in my nose today and it hurts a lot!) - they are bright red, are very sore and tender and swollen and then scab over. The fact that I've only had them during the two Crohn flares in my life points me to believe they are the "extra-intestinal manifastations" referred to in literature ... I'll check into carrot oil, thanks for the heads up.

I haven't had the sores but I have been getting asthma when my allergies are bad and that's not typical for me. I never thought about a cd connection. But my cd and allergies have been worse since I moved. Granted there's been a ton of stress in my life.

Have you seen a dermatologist about the scalp sores?  I'm wondering if it could be psoriasis -- it's hard to tell from your description, but the timing is a bit suspect.  Do the scabs have a silvery look to them?  Psoriasis tends to flare with Crohn's and there can be a rebound effect when stopping steriods.

Nope, no silvery aspect at all .. they are truly ulcers that scab over, just like ones in my nose and mouth right now ...
