How often should a CD patient get a colonoscopy? With or without flaring symptoms?

My girlfriend just had a colonoscopy today as her sister had colon cancer in the past few years - preventative and shie is fine.

Got me thinking. I had a colonoscopy about six years ago when I first started having symptoms but wasn't diagnosed yet. They "didn't find anything."

Prior to my recent hospitalization, they did a CT scan which showed 'nothing' and then two weeks or so, after severe D and throwing up bile, distended abdomen, yadda yadda, did a simple X ray which showed large bowel largely distended (it had completely shut down).

On Imuran and prednisone now.

Got me thinking though, at what point would it make sense to have another colonoscopy?  Or is this only done every 10 years or so or if a doctor suspects a stricture, etc?  Any info / stories would be appreciated.

Should the fact that I have this new symptom - internal and external hemorrhoids play into the decision at all?

every two years for me but i might skip a year i think if i'm feeling ok.

Because I'm in "remission" or as close to healthy as possible, every 3 years. I just had my "routine" scope on 1/22 and saw my GI for follow up yesterday. He said as long as I'm still feeling fine and have no pain or other changes, another 3 years before I have a scope.

My GI recommends yearly now too.  I've had three in 1 1/2 years due to all my complications.

arn't we a lucky group. I did one 3 yr's ago and the nurse asked what my pain toleance was 1-10, 10 bing the most tolerable, I said 2, big mistake I was out of it for 24 hr's. throwing up from being over medicated now I have anew gi and he is so talented and skilled that I am in and out of ther in an  1 1/2 hrs and feel really good after. btu yea that is our thing we have to go thru, but we need to stay on top of our cd.

I've always heard once every 2 years, perhaps every year once you've had it for 10 years...obviously more often if you're feeling flare-ish.
