Is Remicade for life?

I have so much going on with this lousy flare I am not sure what I remember correctly.  Is it true that once you start remicade you must stay on it for life or quit with no return?????  

I have had 3 Remicade infusions. They were over the course of about 18 months to 2 years. This was when Remicade first came out and before they really established the dosing schedule. My doctors have told me that while they are afraid to try Remicade again because I may have anti bodies, it isn't a forgone conclusion that I couldn't have it. In fact I was set to do the loading dosing a few years ago and my doctor decided to do more testing before the Remicade and cancelled it at the last minute.

So I guess what I'm saying is that it might be dependent on the doctor and not a hard and fast rule.

I was on Remicade for 2 years and had to stop for 6 months (which was ok because I was more or less in remission at the time).  A really bad flare ensued and i was started back on Remicade - my doctor was not concerned with the short hiatus.  It is true that you may develop antibodies if you stop and are re-introduced but that does not mean you cannot start again.  However, I personally would prefer to continue my treatment as long as it continues to work for me.

I have my infusions with a friend who was on it for a year in 1999, went off it, and started again in 2009 with no issues. It worked great for him in 1999 but this time it's been a much slower improvement, but improvement none the less. Neither of us has had any infusion reactions to date.
