has pred ever not worked for anyone???

I have been flaring for about 2 weks now and I am back on 40 mgs of pred which I hate cause I get terrible side effects and it doesn't seem to be working. I am still bleeding and having more cramps than I was before. Does pred not always work?

No sometimes some folks just don't have luck with it. Have you talked to your doctor about this? If not, I think you should bring it to his attention. Good luck!

The last time I flared it only helped partly. I continued to go downhill. When I got a fever they tested me for c-diff and I had it. I don't know how long I was really infected and maybe that's why the pred didn't fully help. Before that it always made me feel better.

the first time it did wonders for me I was going to the toilet 30+ times a day and lots of blood.
The first does think it was 100 mg stopped everything no D and no blood.

But it did not last long and as soon as I started to tapper down the pred everything came back.
With more D and more blood.

So the only thing I gained was 44 lbs and the ugliest face in the world.

Today my face is almost back to normal and I have lost 18 of the 44 pounds.

When my husband was in the hospital with c-diff and crohn's, they put him on 120 mgs of solumedrol to control the crohn's. No effect at all. I don't know if it was because he had c-diff as well (he was on vancomycin for the c-diff, and his stool samples tested negative for c-diff when he was on solumedrol), but the steroids didn't seem to help at all - it was like his body was just going on a rampage no matter what. It could also be that we had let it get really bad because they thought he only had c-diff - the crohn's diagnosis was a surprise late finding - so it could be that it would have worked better had we caught it earlier.

It was only remicade that finally helped my hubby. I hope we never get to that state again, it was just plain scary. I think 40mgs of pred is still a pretty low dose is you're in a really bad flare up. Sometimes you need high doses of solumedrol to kick your body into control again. I don't know what other meds you're on - but it would be good to talk to your doc about other options.

The first 5 times I was on it, it worked for me, the first time being the best and then the rest of the times it worked less and less until finally it stopped working all together (the 6th time)...it really saddend me, cuz it was the only oral RX that did anything for me and that I wasn't allergic to. So after about 8 yrs of using no meds and then my flare getting severe again I put my skeptisism aside and went the natural route (listed in my sig below) with some success...better than nothing, afterall it's not like pred ever put me into full remission either.

when I first got cd in 1970, there wasn't many drugs. only azulfadine and pred. I was so bad that neither drug did anything, only surgery corrected it. now I'm on imuran 50mg and 15 pred, but cd was mild in small intestine but got really bad in mythroat and mouth via canker sores, now the pred is like a miracle drug for me, I feel stable, my throat and mouth are stable, that's really the best word, stable. but I can also tell if i stopped the pred that area would flare up, I'm 40 years with this, but mild in my small intestine with proper diet, key for me is proper diet for my gut, med's for my throat and mouth. if my throat and mouth didn't flare I would be on no drugs, just the occ. pain med for gas blockage, once or twice a year

ive been on 60mg of prednisone for the last 2 months and the only thing I could say it's doing positively is holding me over so I am not in excruciating pain. I still have most the CD symptoms

like what brian? can you eat fairly normal or are you on lw residue, and what are your side effects with that 60mg's? my sister drug with the pred is imuran, I've had to take a couple of pain med's the other day at work, other than that the pred has really worked,

At the moment the preds are the only thing that is keeping me sane!! I am still on my pentasa as well, but everytime I taper down and get to 10mg I start flaring up again (lots of diarrhoea, stomach pains that feel like labour pains, and a general feeling of being really not well), now i am to taper down from 20mg again, and then when I get to 10mg, start a course of pred enemas(20mg)every night for a week , I presume this is like a shock system, as then I will be on 30mg of pred, then after the week of enemas (which I am dreading!!!) the pred will be on 5mg for a week before I stop taking it, thats if I dont flare up majorly again, whilst doing the tapering thing yet again!!!
So whether pred is actually working, except for keeping my symptoms at bay, I'll let ya know when it comes to the crunch of coming off it again after the 5mg which will be in about 4 weeks!
I still feel like I am flaring even now whilst on the 20mg, maybe because my body has to get used the higher dose again after being off it for a week, but I cant remember feeling unwell like this when I first started taking the 20mg at the start of the flare before.

Doesn't work for me....and the side-effects I get from it are so harsh it just puts my body under more stress. Its a shame as it seems like it can be so useful in those it does work for.
