is it to much to ask Dr. to write me a note to be off work for a day or so and let me rest? I am on so many meds right now that I'm starting to feel like they are doing more harm then good.

MEDS-

6mp 100mg

pred 40mg

lialda 4.8gms

3 x flagly

2 x cipro

bentyl 20 mgs

You should talk to your doctor if you are feeling that bad. Yes we Crohnies do have to take alot of meds, but they help to keep us in better health most times. Gentle Hugs, hope you get feeling better soon. Hugs!!

Sorry you feel so bad..I know how you feel.  What I am wondering though, looking at your drug list, should you really be on all of them.  You are on 2 types of antibiotics as well as a number of CD drugs.  Maybe you are litterly over medicated.  IMHO I don't think you should be on 6MP and Lialda.  I would think it should be one or the other. 

Feel better and get some rest whenever you can.

I agree with Nanners. You have a lot on your plate and if you are feeling that poorly you might need a few days rest and you should speak to your doctor about what is working and what is not.

Jay - Many of us need to be on a combination of medications. 6MP and Lialda work differently. Flagyl and Cipro are commonly given to CD patients. None of these drugs are out of the norm for CD patients and are the usual course before the higher class of biologics are tried or if biologics are not tolerated.

I do realize that some people need a combination of drugs and that all of the ones listed are CD drugs.  My point was..isn't Cyprol and Flagyl basically the same.  I know there is a slight difference but overall they should have the same result.  The same with the 6MP and Lialda.  I do understand that some combos are needed which is why I haven't mentioned the Pred.  Again, it was just my thought.

I always thought Lialda was mild and 6mp was heavy duty.
So why did your doctor prescribe both???
I've been prescribed cipro and flagyl twice at the same time, but this last time, I was just given flagyl. Does that mean something to anyone?
As far as I'm concerned, it was to treat a recurring perianal abscess in the same spot.
Man, if I had to choose, I would take cipro over flagyl any day of the week! YUCK!
Does anybody know how many times docs can prescribe cipro and flagyl???
What ever happened to that old adage about developing an immunity to antibiotics if you take them too many times?
I for one think that, after 3 times, I have exhausted the benefits of cipro and flagyl.

Java, no, Cipro and Flagyl are not basically the same. You need to take them together for Crohn's, because if you just take Cipro, you can get c-diff. If you're going on antibiotics long term for Crohn's (like I am right now), you need to be on both.

Javajay, it is not unusual for folks to take 6mp and Lialda together. Lialda is one of the 5 ASA meds and as mentioned its not uncommon for folks to take the two antibiotics together. It sounds as if her doc is trying everything to get her feeling better.

Huntersmom, I sure hope your doc gets back with you and gives you some time off. Hugs!

I think it is very reasonable to take some time off to find your feet.
I also agree that there are several reasons to take cipro and flagyl together are you takeing them because of c-diff or for bacterical overgrowth? etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I am taking both antibiotics because I have a severe UTI apparently that I was showing no symptoms of. I think they are hoping it will help my crohn's as well. I just think that my body is so beat down from all these meds that I'm having a hard time functioning. The weird part is that before all these meds when I was in a bad flare with a scope that showed severe disease in my colon, I felt better then I do now. I just want my life back with my kids....they are only 7 and 9 and trying to explain things to them is difficult since I am a single mom. I really appreciate all the feedback, cause I feel like sometimes people think I'm crazy when I tell them how tired I am and that I need a day off and anyone who is a single parent knows that time off only comes when the kids are in school...LOL

I worked part-time when my kids were your kids age. I would get up, dressed, do my hair and makeup (really crowded bus stop and I'm a vain woman ;) ), put the kids on the bus, do what ever ABSOLUTELY had to be done that day, go home and take a nap. I'd pick the kids up from the bus stop, and while they were changing out of their school clothes, I was putting on my jammies. 3:30 in the afternoon and I was done for the day. I couldn't wait for my husband to get home so that I could rest again.

You are not alone, and you are not the only one this has happened to. If you feel you need a few days to just recover, then you need to ask for it and not feel guilty about it. If you don't take care of you, you can't take care of anyone else.

ABSOLUTELY ask your doctor for as many days as you need. I know my dr would do that if I asked. You know your body. Whether it's too many meds or just a flare or you're just exhausted, do what you need. This is your health.

I noticed on your med list you have prenatal vitamins.  Is there somthing to prenatal vitamins helping Crohn's or are you just expecting?

Yes Have the Doctor give you a note for a couple of days off.
