Methotrexate with fistula?

remicade healed mine.

can mtx make an abscess or fistula worse?

I doubt it. MTX would help to tamp down the inflammation, so I think it would make things better vs worse. JMHO

I think it can actually help with fistulas. Not as high a rate as Remicade by any means but they've done some studies...

METHOTREXATE CAN MAKE FISTULAS WORSE. use it with caution. it made my fistula worse. and caused neutropenic fever. it dropped all of my blood cells ---WBCs particularly and I had to be readmitted because of it. so watch your WBC count and your LFTs (liver function tests) --Bilirubin, AST, ALT (or SGOT/SGPT). It's a SUPER powerful chemotherapeutic agent so just be careful.

Here's a quote from a study regarding fistulas and methotrexate:
"Thirty-seven courses of methotrexate therapy were given to 33 patients with luminal and/or fistulizing Crohn's disease. In 16 patients with fistulas, four (25%) had complete closure, five (31%) had partial closure and all had failed or were intolerant to 6-mercaptopurine therapy."
