Astroboogie,
Don't let the disease get to you. You sound like you are ready to throw in the towel. I say, Don't. I am 36 right now and was diagnosed at 15. I missed my last two years of High School because I didn't know the disease and I let it beat me. After my first year of staying in bed all day, bored out of my mind, I said enough is enough. I got home study and finished HS ontime. I went to college. During the college years I had my problems and flares, but I would not let it stop me. I did graduate with both an Associates and a Bachalors degree. Want to get a real kick...my Associates degree is in cooking. When I left school, I worked cooking in restaurants. Imagine a person with CD standing on the hotline with tons of meals to make and needing to go.
Long story short, I am still in the hospitality industry. I left the kitchen but not because of the CD. I refused to let it run my life. Right now I do purchasing for a 5 Star Hotel. My boss knows about my CD so if I have problems, he is understanding. Every 8 weeks now, I need off for my Remicade infusions. I use sick time, but my boss know ahead of time.
Needless to say, you can lead a somewhat normal life. It is possible. Yes there will be bad days. Living with CD is not easy...but you adapt. The big thing to remember is not to let it beat you. And if you do get depressed (and we all do), don't be ashamed to get help for it. Also, you can always come here to vent and look for some help. There are people here from all over the world with different types of CD and have it in various stages. We will all help you if we can.
Feel better and let us know how you are doing.
