Out of curiosity, is it more the actual food or the texture of it that causes problems with you? For example, I can have ground beef but I can't have steak. I can tolerate mashed foods but not unmashed.

Well, I am a weird one. I can eat a food one day and have no issues. Then eat it again a week later and it will sit on my stomach like a rock and I will throw it all back up. I know for me texture is big for my gag reflex. If I have a texture I do not care for I will gag until I throw up. I have always been weird like that!

I think the harder the food is to digest, the more problems it will cause. I follow a low residue diet all the time because of this. The low residue diet is easy to chew, easy to digest.
