This is OT but the stress it causes has definitely affects my health, and I'm hoping someone on here might have some good advice.
In a nutshell, my hubby's boss hasn't been paying him on any kind of regular basis for over a year now. He's been able to collect some unemployment, but his boss now owes him a large amount of back pay. Unfortunately he hasn't had any luck finding another job, and we feel trapped in this due to our need for health insurance because of me. His boss seems to not understand the difficulty he's causing us, and when he does pay, acts like he's doing him a favor. We found out some employees have apparently gotten more pay out of this guy than we have because my husband is such a nice guy and had compassion for his situation.
We've been reluctant to get the labor board involved, thinking we might never see that money if the business goes completely under. But we are now so angry about
this that we're considering our options. I'm terrified of losing the health insurance though. I only work part-time so I don't have the option of benefits and my pay is not much.
What would you guys do? Does anyone know what happens when the labor board does get involved?

I don't have any advice for you but did want to send you good luck. I think something should be done, no one works for free.

Are you in the US? Can you contact an attorney for advice? What a shame. What the boss is doing is definitely illegal, at least in the US. Good luck to you. I hope you can get this resolved and keep your health insurance.

heatmiser...sorry you are stuck in this. First, I think the time of waiting to get paid has past. If you are able to live on what you have been getting, I would fight for past pay and use that to pay for benefits if needed should the company fold.
I am not sure what type of insurance your husbands company has, but check to see if there is a Terminal Liabilty option in place should the company cease to exist. if all else fails, you would still be COBRA eligible.
