I've got Jury Duty this week, and, if you can believe it, I kinda want to go...I had to postpone from February cuz 1- I felt like H-E- double hockey sticks and 2- was super terrified of getting sick, cuz of all my meds, and some narly illnesses were going around (my husband works for AZ Dept of Health Services, so he got weekly e-mails about
different "outbreaks")
Okay, so now fast forward to May...there are less illnesses, but I'm am coming off prednisone...and have been on it for over 3 years now...not to mention, I am not feeling any better than I did in February...Actually today, I feel worse...liver hurts, bones hurt, D is pretty bad and white too...itching that won't stop...tummy hurts...
I guess I wrote cuz I'm looking for a couple o things...1-feel kinda crummy, and just wanted someone to commiserate with...2-wondering if I am the only weird one that actually WANTS to go to Jury duty and feels bummed that I cannot go 3-What would you all do? Would you call in sick today, as Jury duty day is Thursday? Would you wait to see how you are feeling on Wednesday? Would you take a 1mg prednisone so that you COULD serve your jury duty?
Thanks...

I've done both...gotten excused when flaring and served when feeling well. If you are worried, have your doc write a note, that way they'll believe that you are being treated for an illness. Don't push yourself if you aren't out of the flare!

I've been called about
6 or 7 times. I have always had my doctor write me a note immediately and sent it in to get me excused. I don't ask for much from society, so I have no guilt about
not putting myself through jury duty. I can't sit in the uncomfortable seats not knowing when I will get to go to the restroom or how I will feel in the morning if I do get put on a jury. Just too much stress.

I have always wanted to sit on a jury. But, every time I was called, i was in a "can't risk no potty breaks" flare. In my area, we can not send a doc note ahead of time any more. We can bring one on the first day we are called in and be excused. I never ended up going into jury selection, but several lawyer friends said the judge would have excused me with my docs note...explained Crohns and the sudden and without delay need for the bathroom in detail hehehehe.

For me, I wouldn't trust myself to serve on a jury if I had any trace of pred left in me. I'm sitting here picturing myself having a sudden mood swing, cussing and yelling and being dragged out of the court room by security guards, etc. Nope...I wouldn't chance it. LOL!

I do mine, it is pretty fun. They always had plenty of double, triple homicides and other fun cases. Now I live somewhere that has mostly traffic junk:( Not worth it anymore.

I simply wrote on our form, I have Crohn's. That was 20 years ago and I've never been sent another.
Seriously, hard wooden benches be the start of why not (boney butt), but the "Excuse me your honour, I have to go to the bathroom NOW" really was the deciding factor.
And yes, oddly, I too felt ripped off, and then I thought the way Crohinie lass said, who need that detail when your sick?

Here in my part of AZ, the rediculous drive distance alone is enough to make me not want to go. Much less get there, at that distance through morning rush hour.

I pulled jury duty some years back in a time when my old gut was relatively calm. I found it interesting . The plantiff lawyer's star witness was a well know orthopedic surgeon. On questioning he made the lawyer look like an idiot. One comment the lawyer made was that his client needed injections in the spine to feel better. The doctor said, "Son, thats why your a lawyer and I am an orthopedic surgeon, I can inject you in the finger and make you feel better, but I would not be helping you." We found for the defendent. Later we were told that the gentleman being sued was a WWII flying ace who flew one of the Flying Tiger planes in China. I was glad we had saved him from paying for something that was not his fault and also glad to meet him after the trial. So if your old gut will let you serve , do so.

My husband just finished jury duty. He was scheduled for this whole week, but they dismissed him after just 1 day. So basically he went in at 8 am and came back home by 4. I'm sure it's a different experience for everyone, but I'm thankful that it wasn't too stressful for my hubby.
He said he found all the proceedings quite interesting. Of course, we'd probably have gotten a doc's note if he was flaring.

I had my Gastro excuse me from mine. That is the *ONLY* time I've used my illness as an excuse for anything.

Well, I guess it was a moot point in that I called in this afternoon and they said I did not have to appear, though I kinda wanted to...will probably never get picked for a jury...
I worked for the Coroners Office for over 2 years...my dad and best friends were police officers...so they usually dismiss me right away from many criminal cases...not to mention the chemistry/biology/laboratory/molecular science education I have...
Then I worked for the Corporation Commission, which is the state version of the SEC(and in AZ, has all the government powers including judicial, meaning they have hearings and can place penalties, though not jail)...I even got to transcribe tapes from crooks in the boiler rooms...those telemarketing and other type scams...so I got dismissed quick from one of those too...
Oh, and in 2008 got dismissed from an medical malpractice case, cuz it seems that they didn't want anyone who had a chronic illness...they dismissed all of us, or those who had to care for a chronically ill family member...
I know that I am glad and all, as I am not feeling so hot...but I would like to, maybe once, sit in a jury...I get called, have to sit and wait...but I never, ever seem to get picked...some people would love to be so lucky...I'm just weird...

Yep , lawyers are very fussy, if one wants you for some reason the other doesn't want you for the same reason.

I have never been called in for jury duty but would love to do it. If my stomach would hold up I think that would be absolutely fun for a geek like me to experience. Of course, the person getting tried probably would not feel as excited as I would be but I guess I am a glutton for punishment. If one of us did manage to get picked, the judge would soon change from hitting the hammer and say,"order in the court" to ,"ODOR IN THE COURT, Odor in the court!!" and the case would be dismissed.
