Side effects a month after stopping Pred?

Hi everyone,

I finally got off pred a month ago after being on 40 mg for about 11 months (yay me!)...I'm doing ok symptoms-wise, but I'm just wondering how long it will be until my pred side effects go away. I know no one really knows, but just posting your experiences would be great.

I have been losing my hair for a few years now (may be a side effect of drugs, malnutrition, or psoriasis of the scalp...no one is sure). I am now off all drugs and doing much better nutrition-wise because I had surgery. I was hoping my hair would stop falling out. It has stopped a lot but it is still falling out some...my big annoyance is that it is growing back BLACK, and not as fine as the rest of my light brown hair (only in my hairline and eyebrows, not anywhere else). I thought that was due to the pred, but now it's been a month since I stopped it...could it still be from the pred? Should I still hope for it to stop being so weird, or will it be like this for the rest of my life? :/

I think by now the Pred is out of your body. I think that you are just growing in new hair and its coming in differently. I know chemo patients often talk about when their hair grows back, its curlier or straighter than it was. By the way, you really should be on maintainence meds. Just because you had surgery doesn't mean the Crohns is gone, there is no cure. I didn't take meds after my first resection and ended up having to have another surgery only 3 years later. I now only take Asacol to maintain my Crohns and have been in remission for the past 5 years. I don't want you to suffer again needlessly. JMHO

That was before your surgery, maybe you need to give one of them a try now and maybe they will work better this time. Hugs!

Hi: Just wanted to let you know that my hair also continued to fall out for 6 months after stopping pred. Saw a dermatologist for it, and she said the timing of it all made sense. I was getting really scared, but it finally did stop.
