What would a liquid diet consist of ?

Thanks flowery, sorry you have this problem too. But if you have to go on meds let me know and I will tell you all the ones that they have tried on me. I've resolved myself to the fact I will need insulin. Guess that means a larger suitcase when i go anywhere. Already my weekly meds are like a ball and chain every time I take off. Now i'll need a fridge to keep my shots cool. The pump sounds like am idea I will talk over with doc. In my best Arnold voice, " Pump me oup " .. "Ets not a tuma." Thanks Lyn and tell Cait my wife has noticed I am a (grumpygi ),,,, sorry other Grumpygi,,, lately . She knows its from the hi blood sugar and the meds and all the other crap going on inside this old body right now but knows me well enough to know I will get back to my old self even if she has to ,,,needle me. Doc has me scheduled for blood work next week. He's going to be shocked when he sees the new med he has me on has done the reverse of what its intended to do. I am wondering if it didnt do irrevocable damage. My Numbers started going up as soon as I started it. From 180s to 200+, then I started gaining weight about a half pound per day. Next came gout and kidney stones as I found out it kicked my uric acid levels up. Thats when I stopped taking it , but my numbers kept going up sometimes into the 300+ and the numbness in my fingers started. My weight has started to go down now but not back to what I need it to be and I just cant get the blood sugar down below 200. Needless to say I feel like crap and am PO'ed too.
I think I may leave my body to science when I kick the bucket, maybe they can use a good door stop.

To revisit the original subject of the thread, now with the context that you're struggling with diabetes, you can get enteral (liquid-diet) formulas of many different varieties. For someone with insulin-dependent diabetes, I would suggest one of the higher-fat formulas (containing 30 or 35% fat), which would minimize the number of carbs needed to be covered by insulin (with that ratio of fat, these formulas would include 55% to 60% carbs and about 10% to 14% protein). With not being insulin-dependent, I'm not sure what the ideal ratio would be, but your doctor could help you with that, and then you could choose a formula that matched the needed ratio. (similarly, Dunny, who was also asking about nutritional support and is fighting pancreatitis, could find a low-fat formula to keep her triglycerides down (5% to 10% fat), with a higher ratio of carbs. My other thought about this would be it might be worth sticking exclusively to the enteral formula for a few weeks, before mixing in other liquids or foods, to see if the exclusive use could get you back into remission.

By the way, do you happen to be using methotrexate? I found that my blood sugar, previously normal, went up considerably while I was taking methotrexate and went down again after I stopped. I did a little research after observing that, and found that there had been a small study done of methotrexate in people who were developing latent autoimmune diabetes of adulthood (LADA), a slow-onset form of autoimmune diabetes that seems to occur mainly in people with other autoimmune diseases. The study was to test whether the progression to insulin-dependent diabetes could be slowed by the use of the immunosuppressive, but it turned out the progression went faster in those using methotrexate. The study was too small to draw any broad conclusions, and I suspect that few people have the problem with methotrexate raising blood sugar or it would be more widely reported, but maybe for those who already have known or unsuspected LADA, methotrexate can sometimes speed the progression. For what it's worth (essentially nothing, since it is only anecdotal evidence with data from one person), my blood sugar is up again after using a different immunosuppressive (typically used in rheumatology, not Crohn's) and so far has not come down after discontinuing.
