Yeah, and how come dogs eat poop? What's up with that??
Oh, I saw this on "It's Me or the Dog." If I recall, it means that they didn't digest it well, and are going back to try it again. It can be caused by eating too fast (some dogs do wolf their food), eating food that's tough to digest, and lack of enzymes. On the show, they fed the dog raw pineapple before his regular food to supplement his digestive enzymes, and fed him small amounts at a time so he couldn't wolf it all down at once.
On the topic of pharmaceutical reps and docs, I read a study that showed even little bits of free crap like clipboards and pens can subconsciously influence a doc to recommend their product over another. Some places (can't recall where) won't allow their docs to accept anything from the reps, no lunches, no pens, nothing. I couldn't find that exact article, but this one goes into similar info: http://medicationsense.com/articles/jan_apr_06/conflict_of_interest_020306.html
When I was looking for a vet for my bird, I ended up choosing a guy all the way across the city versus the one that was close by. Her office pimped a specific brand of bird pellets, and berated anyone who didn't use them. They gave me a ton of flack about
how I was harming my bird by feeding her fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. and pushed and pushed for me to buy those pellets. I've talked to other bird owners who received the same treatment, they all fled to a different vet as well.
