Burning mouth and tongue with little canker like sores could it b Crohnes in the mouth????

  1. Burning pain in the mouth while eatting or drinking and brushing my teeth..
  2. There is no white spots which would indicate oral thrush
  3. I do have raised bumps on the inside of my checks and gums and tongue..
  4. I have tried different oral rinses and even lidicane to numb it,but it don't work..
  5. Is it possiable that my disease has run its course and I have Crohnes in my mouth..
  6. I looked everything up I could think of but found nothing really...
  7. One site said it could b from malnutrient which I am and have been for over 7 months I was on TPN for 4 months before I could even have surgery and 2 months after I have SBS now so to obsorb anything is hard cause of the severe vomiting and diahrea and pain I'm down to 84 pounds now and very tired and weak...

  10. I devloped Erthemia Nordosem (SPELLED WRONG SORRY) it is Crohnes disease of the legs which is very painful
  11. I have also had scurby (SPELLED WRONG AGAIN SORRY) which is what the sailors used to get from lack of fruits and vegtables,this to was painful,I'm starving to death from the bathroom visits and when I try to eat it hurts so bad its not worth it.

It has been years since I had a mouth flare, but that is what it sounds like to me. I had them all through my mouth, tongue, and throat and it hurt to eat and/or swallow anything. The only thing that worked for me to get rid of them was prednisone.

One or two others on here are experiencing the same thing, so hopefully they will be along to give you some advice.

I'm sorry you are going through this! I can still remember the pain of them and I haven't had them in over 20 years!

Yes,  I have had CD dx since 1999.  In 2008 I had a major flare which landed me in the ICU.  I had gastritis, gingivitis and painful mouth, elbow and facial uclers.  Since that episode I am developing inflammatory arthritis.  I believe that inflammatory bowel disease can cause inflammation and ulcers elsewhere in our bodies.  Remicade (8 weeks) and 50 mg imuran/day are keeping me well now.  The remicade wears off at about six weeks and I suffer inflammation in my muscles, joints and mouth (little sores).  I feel much better after an infusion.  It seems to clear my inflammation for awhile and I am free of the pain and swelling.  I know in about six weeks I will go through the pain and inflammation again. 

When I had my mouth ulcers the roof of my mouth was so bad it shocked my dentist who had never seen anything like it.  He asked me how I live with this?  I replied - "What choice?"

I feel great right now due to the meds.  It is helpful to have great doctors.

I can believe that I logged on and seen this today... I have been dealing with this also for about 5 days now. I have a terrible sore throat (different from a typical sore throat though), mouth pain, and tongue pain.  Your tongue should not hurt!  It hurts the most on the sides of my tongue way in the back. I do see little red bumps on the sides of my tongue, but I think that is normal taste buds.  However, it hurts to move my tongue side to side and to move my tongue to eat and swallow.  I am also in midst of a crohns flare up, it started last month, I did a round of prednisone, felt better, and now it is back again.  Have been doing Nystatin swish & swallow for the mouth / throat pain since thursday and I would say that it is about 50% better.  My PCP said that it could be thrush from being immuno suppressed from prednisone and humira.  I thought that you had to have white patches and a coated tongue for it to thrush, but maybe not?

I get that same way in my mouth.  I always believe it to be from the crohns.  I gargle with as warm as  I can stand it salt water and use a drop of theives essential oil directly on my tounge.

Yes I have it in my mouth. Was dx as cohns by ENT doc. You have my sympathy!!

we have to remember that not all our ailments are CD related.. it could be anything, b-12 deficiency for the painful tounge, geographic tongue, an STD? any number of thing just keep that in mind.

Hi there, I've had mouth troubles for couple of years now ....mine is more just burning.... very red and painful I've often wondered if Crohns but prob more Iron def ....!! I have a mouthwash I got from my ENT doc ...its called "Magic Mouthwash" it helps ....I don't know if it ever goes away completely ...but find the mouthwash soothing,,,you should be able to get it from your GP. I have to add there are different versions ...some not so nice!! Hope this helps you :-) x

It could be malnutrition-lack of folic acid comes to mind. People with autoimmune disorders often get those mouth sores.

Thank u everyone 4 your advise I got an appointment 2 go c my GI doc next month a long wait I might starve 2 death by than no joke seriously I'm so hungry but it hurts so bad 2 put food or fluid in my mouth and 2 brush my teeth its like putting pure javex in my mouth I got some magic mouth wash from my local doc but its just not helping and I'm very undernourished cause of the short bowel syndrome and the severe diarrhea and vomiting is really bad the vomiting is hurting my mouth 2 cause its bile the worst I tell ya I'm so sick of being sick I just want a normal pain free life is that 2 much 2 ask 4....Thanks Jenn...

I have cd in throat,mouth and on tongue, in my throat when I'm flareing it is like swallowing glass, then it travels up and it feels like I can't swalllow anything without it getting stuck in my lower throat, I caomplained so much to my gi, I've tried everything from entocort, pentasa, immuran, nothing budged that throat, mouth and then I would get cankersores really bad on my inside of cheeks and then my tongue woulsd get blisters,(bad), pred was the only thing that would flare me down, then gi said I needed to try rem. so before I started I told gi that I had to get off pred, that drug drove me nuts, plus the side effects were horrid, so I stopped taking pred just to see if the rem worked on my throat, and the day after rem infusion when i got up from sleeping i went to get drink of water and I could swallow fairly normal, I've been struggling with this throat,mouth,tongue thing for years. but I can definatly tell when rem wears off, (now) my next infusion is the 24th of aug, but I take more vicodin now in place of pred, it's different but it works for me, and my dr's are ok with it, I'm just careful. my internal medicine dr. she would rather me use vicodin than pred,

  • Hi Artist guy thanks 4 the message I will find out soon enough what is causing mine hopefully before I starve 2 death lol..I reallt think it is my disease showing its ugly head once again it sucks cause belly pain we can deal with or bone pain cause we r used 2 it and we know what 2 expect right,but my mouth its a different pain and the simple action of brushing my teeth I thought I would nevr take that 4 granted but I do now,,,even when I'm having a bad flare-up brushing my teeth hurts me lol....
