I had my JP drain removed yesterday and the surgeon put a wad of gauze on it and said it might drain some...well...that is an understatement. I don't know what normal drainage should be but I know some of you have had JPs so maybe you can tell me how much/what kind you had.
I'm a *little* concerned only because there is a lot of drainage still today and it is a dark green color (the same color as my current BMs) as well as a light (maybe greenish) discharge. The other part of the concern comes from the possibility that I am passing undigested food through the giant hole in my abdomen :( I had a McDonald's cheeseburger yesterday and I'm fairly certain the chunks I saw in my drainage this afternoon were onion from that cheeseburger.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Is it "normal" to drain for a few days? Is it "normal" for intestines to leak undigested food post-surgery? I might die if I have to go back into the hospital or have to get cut again. It is super hard to get ahold of my doctors at the moment so I thought I would check with you guys first...not for dx obviously...just for personal experiences.
Thanks!!
