second opinions

This may sound like a stupid question, but considering there are only a handful of meds and surgery that the medical field uses for controlling Crohn's, what should I expect out of getting a second opinion? I love my GI as a doctor and person, but I cannot get my disease under control and it's really diminishing my quality of life.

I've had several people suggest I get a second opinion, so I set up an appointment at Barnes Jewish in St. Louis, which is where I was originally sent after the hospital in my hometown couldn't diagnose me. It is a teaching and research hospital, which I like, because you have many people on your case. However, I have a hard time trying to figure out how much more different of treatment they will suggest. I suppose I'm comparing it to having an issue that isn't a chronic disease, but with Crohn's there is no cure and they don't know what causes it, so should I really expect anything different?

I'm asking my GI on Wednesday about going to Cleveland Clinic or somewhere for another opinion since my rheumy has exhausted all options that my GI will allow.  My first GI said he did every possible test twice and couldn't figure out that I had Crohn's, then I switched GIs and he did two tests that my first GI never did and dx'ed me right away.  So, there are things that some doctors think about that others don't and they may interpret results differently.
