Anal fistula surgeon

Hi all,

I got a boil near anal one year ago. It got better but did not cure completely even after 5 months. So a surgeon decided to remove it and cut a huge hole on my body. However, half a year after the surgery, the wound still refuses to recover completely and the situation is worse than the situation before the surgery.

Recently, a surgeon thought it must be anal fistula and told me to see another surgeon who knows anal fistula better.

Would anyone recommend a  surgeon really good at anal fistula in Melbourne, Australia? Thank you so much in advance.

Try the big teaching hospitals - St Vincent's, Royal Melbourne, Monash; places like that.

You'll probably find you'll need a referral from your gp to get on their books, though.

Do you have private health insurance, or are you using Medicare?

Thank you very much for your help. I do not have private health insurance, but I can buy one if needed.

The reason I asked about private insurance is that - as I'm sure you know - it's pretty hard to specify that you want to see a certain surgeon without it. But the big teaching hospitals are generally very good - world leaders in some areas, as i'm sure you also know - and I feel sure that they'll set you up with a good surgeon who is appropriate to your needs.

As far as waiting time goes, I've always been category one or two for my fistula issues, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long either.
