I had my follow up appointment today. The results from my stool sample were in, they were negative for blood and any infections, however it was positive for white blood cells, so my disease is active. I finally gave in and am starting a round of prednisone, starting at 30 mg and tapering by 5mg every 5 days. Hopefully that'll help.
He ordered some blood work to check for various things, including an allergy indicator. He told me that allergies can trigger flares and since I've been congested since the spring he thinks it's possible I have allergies (never have before) He's also checking my iron levels to make sure I'm not anemic since I've been so tired/exhausted for so long.
Long term, he wants me off the sulfasalazine and hopes I can get back on Pentasa and increase my imuran to 100 mg. He wants to use remicade as a last resort seeing as he's having patients coming back after 5-10 yrs remission while on it and it's losing it's effect on them.
He also thinks with the spasms I've been having and also the nausea, could be just spasms or a partial obstruction so we'll see if things get better on the prednisone and then go from there. He's also giving me a lot of phenergan to have help and a store for when I'm nauseous.
Can I just say I love my new dr?
