Saw the doc on monday and he took me off the Entocort and put me on Prednisone. (4x daily). He also put me on the 6-8 bottles a day of Ensure. Bleh!

Said i lost another 12lbs since June. I have to see him again this monday and if there's no noticeable improvement he's putting me in the hospital for the week of IV's to calm my bowels, etc down. I feel better than i did today then when i saw him monday but how much better can someone get on a week of Prednisone? My wife just wants me to forget all the pills and get into the hospital and get it taken care of but i like to use hospitals as a very last resort.

You would be amazed at what prednisone can do in a week! I have a love/hate relationship with it. If you can do a high dose/short term taper it may help you avoid a hospital stay. What you want to try to avoid is being on it for long term, say more than 3 months or so. I have been on it for most of my CD life at various doses and am steroid dependent, but at this point I am on such a low dose that I don't have any side effects but it take the place of my inactive adrenal gland.
