Awhile back I told my GI I wanted to get off Prednisone as it was causing side effects and I just didn't like it. He didn't listen had me stay on it. I started to develop a buffalo hump. So I called and complained said I wanted off of it. Finally he agreed. When I did see him he questioned me if I was taking more then the 40mg. I told him NO why would I be taking more of something that i've been asking to get off of for months? So I decided to get a copy of my medical records to see what this PITA Dr was saying about me. He wrote in his letter to my PCP that I was very sensative to the steriods and he feels that I was taking more then the 40mg!! Now I have an appt on the 18th and I am more then pissed about this. Why do I want to continue seeing a Dr who questions what I do? If I was taking more I would admit to it. What really bothers me is that I was asking to come off it for months and that is not anywhere in the notes. I'm about to cancel my appt on Monday because I have no interest in seeing him or speaking to someone who I can't trust or who doesn't believe me. What would anyone else do? Question why he wrote that? Everything I say he says well no one else i've had ran into this problem it never happens so not sure why it would with you. Any suggestions? I'm about to call and cancel and never deal with him again!!

If there is no trust or respect in a patient/dr. relationship, IMHO, it's time to move on and find a new GI doc. Pretty egotistical to imply that if he hasn't seen a symptom before in another patient, it cannot be real.

I am so hurt because I feel like he thinks I am lying. But why would someone take more of something when they've been asking to come off it for months. I have no interest in seeing him on Monday because now I feel anything I say will just be twisted around. Thanks Babs1957 I think I will move on. It's just so hard to get in with a new Dr.

I agree I think its time for a new doc. Especially when he has such bad memory problems. Are you still on 10 mg like in your signature? If so maybe slowly start weaning down like 2.5 mg a week and see how you do. Hugs!

No, I need to update that. I decided I had enough and he wasn't listening so I stopped it on my own. A month and a 1/2 later he said to start to taper. So basically I was never taking more than I was supposed to was normally taking less because I hated the side effects. It's just so hard to find a new Dr. I called one place and was told the earliest would be March! I'm looking for a female since i'm only had male GI's and have bad luck with all of them. All the female doctors I have had I have never had problems with. So trying to find one who will listen and write everything I say down not just what they want.
Forgot to mention something when I posted my 1st post. Not only did he say all of the above in his notes but I got blood work back and he failed to give me the results. So I looked them over and saw my CRP was high, Sed Rate High, PTT low, WBC high and a bunch other stuff high and low. More than annoyed right now! Maybe I shouldn't get so upset but I am!

Don't beat yourself up right now...it's in the past and you can only change the future! I think a new GI is in order but do your research and don't worry about waiting to see them...that usually means they're worth it. If you have an appointment and start to have major issues I am sure they could get you in sooner.

Ohio76, thank you! I guess I never really thought that having to wait for a doctor could be a good thing! I guess I will just wait for March to come. The office for my appt on Monday called earlier to say they had to cancel my appt. So I guess maybe it's a sign! I had blood work done for the appt yesterday and I bet they don't even call to go over that. My mom works in the same building so I had her get the results for me so I could see. Some stuff was off but not much so probably nothing to worry about. So will just wait and out and see if they call to reschedule like they said they would.

How much were you on when you quit the Pred? Its can be very dangerous to just quit the Pred without tapering off. Don't want you to have any probs.

I went down to 10mg and then stopped taking it. Probably shouldn't have just stopped but figured it was only 10mg and I had enough.

I forget, but I think I remeber you being on the southshore of Boston? The GI I go to works with a bunch of doctors, they aren't really in a practice together, but they cover for each other, if that makes sense, but they are in the metro Boston area. There is one woman GI that I had cover for him while I was in the hospital over a weekend a few years back. She was very nice and I liked her. Just throwing it out there for you.

Zanne you are correct I live on the southshore. Do you remember her name or the hospital? I heard DeAnna Nguyen is great but she isn't seeing new patients until March. I could be wrong about the female thing and could have bad luck with a female as well but figured I haven't had any luck with the male GI's and I've had great luck with all my other doctors and they are female.

She is in Stoneham and works out of Winchester Hospital, so she might not be an option for you, but I liked her and she did seem to listen. I spent some time in Beth Israel and saw a couple of female GI's there and they were not nearly as attentive as the doctors I have had at the local hospitals. In fact they were down right rude and nasty. In my experience the big city hospital doctors are great if you are having some really weird unexplainable issues or you need to get into the latest study for up and coming meds, but the local guys have more time for their patients and seem to remember who you are, what meds you are on, what you've tried in the past and really seem to care.

Thank you for the information Suzanne! Stoneham is about an hour away from me. So isn't too far. See all of the local GI's in my area are ALL male! That would be my luck. I even searched area's near by and all males as well. Only females I could find were in Boston and Rhode Island and at big hospitals. I did look into some hospital in RI I forget the name but it had several females. If I switched it would be my 5th GI in two years. I would think that would kind of look bad. I know people on here say you need to find someone you like and trust but you would think after awhile your insurance company would question it? Thanks again for the info!

That doctor sounds like a moron. I am sorry you are going through this. I agree...female doctors seem to listen better. I have only had a problem with 1 female GI doctor.  All the others I have had problems with are males at big hospitals.

firecracker1 he's a huge moron!! I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with idiot doctors but wish none of us were dealing with this or the actual disease! Must be thing with males and big hospitals they must think they are gods gift to earth and are just wonderful.

I am not saying you should keep this doctor. But I will say that the doctor SHOULD tell your PCP what he really thinks without any regard for hurt feelings. If the doctor had a reason to suspect you were taking more pred, some symptom or sign. I know that when medical people were looking at me funny because I had pancreatitis and said I drank very small amounts of alcohol it GOT OLD FAST. It was imuran that caused it not beer. So I sympathize but, I stand by my defense of the doctor. This said though, fire his butt........

Just an FYI RedSoxGirl, I had to make an appointment for my daughter with my GI, who is an associate of this female doctor and we only had to wait 4 weeks. She is a new patient and only has 2 days a week available for appointments because she is in college, so I think if you wanted to switch you probably could get in long before March.

UPDATE: So my mom was furious that they canceled my appt on Monday. So my mom being the lovely mother she is felt the need to call the office and re schedule. Was able to go in the same time but with a Dr in training. Was very awkward the Dr was probably late 20's early 30's and he was a hottie. lol. So nothing like being upset and explaining everything. I know it's his job but it's hard to see that when you just see him. So he was talking to my mom and my mom asked a question and he said that I had Crohn's and IBS??? We asked about that since it was never told to us before until that moment. Asked how you can have both and never answered any questions. So I am so confused. Can you have Crohn's and IBS? Or was that just a bull crap answer because he didn't know what else to say to us? He had be have more blood work because my levels were high so that was nice someone actual noticed that but wasn't happy with him ignoring our questions. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Red it could be the doctor reaching for straws. They don't always have the answer and so they give you a maybe. Like IBS. I was told I could have both because my colonoscopy was clear, a few years back, but I was still hurting. I don't remember if this was before or after the gall bladder quit on me or the pancreas exploded????? Be assertive when you ask a question and make sure they answer it to best of ability.

Taking notes helps you to piece it all together. A young doctor is better than an old doctor in many ways but of course I would take a good ole doc over the young dumb arse who I fired cause he couldn't see why I might need a couple days off from work during a flare...................Luck

FunGuy you haven't had it easy huh? Gall bladder quit and then your pacreas exploded? darn you poor thing. I just think I scared the young guy. Just wondering if he was going off the other doctors notes or if he just pulled it out of his @$$ to say something. I have to go back now to see another specialist blood work came back and some levels were high but one that worried him was my cortisol level. So when I go will ask about what the Dr has me having IBD or IBD/IBS. I did like the Dr being young after getting over the fact we probably were close in age so that was awkward. He did seem smart but so does the older doc. But both seem smart in their own ways. The doc couldn't figure out why you needed a few days off because of a flare!?! Smart thinking for firing his arse! lol. Sometimes I don't think they get it that they see too many patients and think we just need to suck it up and that in time we will be fine and over it all.
