Positive experience with un-sedated colonoscopy

I am the first one that asked if the original poster had Crohn's disease because I was trying to figure out why he had blogged his entire colonoscopy experience. To be honest, I was wondering if it was someone possibly writing a article or if they were going to try and sell us on a product that made their scope pain free. I wasn't necessarily offended but more confused as to what was going on. It was truly interesting to read someone else's account of their scope and also brought back some flashbacks of what I hate most.:) Jen77, I understand how you may have had feelings of frustration when you read it and also why Crohnietoo may not have liked some of the responses. When a person is going through such a big battle with a disease and someone seemingly belittles it by making our pain seem overblown, it can cause some major regressed tensions to arise. After reading the person's next post about not realizing what this forum was about I felt a little bad because I think he was sincere in not wanting to hurt feelings. I don't believe that he did not know what the forum was because you literally have to click on Crohn's disease and had to set up an account to post but I don't think he was anticipating rubbing some people the wrong way. It is probably hard for the poster to understand how it makes us feel because few people know what it is like to have a chronic disease that is not easily seen. I think all of us have had the great experience of having someone tell us that they know what it is like to have Crohn's disease because they have had the flu before. Or how many of us have been told that if we just eat this food or exercise we would be cured because the person knows someone else with Crohn's disease that did that.
As for having an unsedated scope, please do not take offense if many people here do not understand why you would prefer it that way. To the poster who said that there is no pain involved, I have had 30 scopes and not one colonoscopy has been pain free for me and that is with 6 different G.I.s doing them. I have an extremely high pain tolerance but the gas from the scope alone is enough to make me pray for death. Some people tolerate the scopes better than others and consider yourself lucky that you only have a little discomfort because I have had multiple times that I have had to do emergency MRIs to make sure that I did not perforate during the scope.They did this not just because of the obvious pain that I was in but because my blood pressure shot way up along with my heart rate due to pain. It is because of my experience of post scope pain and the unfortunate experience of waking up during one that I can't understand why you would want to be awake. That being said, I am not judging you for your preference but merely trying to understand.
Being a crohnie, I have learned that it is imperative that I grow a thick skin and not take offense easily.This is always easier said than done but if i take offense I am typically the only one that suffers. I felt a little bad that the poster asked to have his post removed because I want everyone to feel welcome here.(Except for the spammers) It is ok to have a healthy debate and I do not feel it wrong to ask if a person has this disease due to the nature of the forum. There are several members here who do not have the disease but have a relative with it.

To each their own, Jen. This would be a most boring world if we all saw things the same way.

I have had a short scope with out any drugs but I would never ever never have a full scope with out any drugs no way.
I am in enough pain as it is, no need to bring on more pain.

I see that the OP does not have IBD so I can understand why he would go the no-drugs way.
But my advise to people with active disease in there colon, is take the drugs as much as you can get ;)
