Odd question ???

 I dont know if anyone else is diabetic here but I would bet I'm not the only one. Started insulin not long ago and have been feeling better. I move the injection site around as they told me to do but only so many places to stick and my belly seems to be a bigger target sooo thats my first choice most of the time. There are more choice new spots on it than my thighs . The needle is so small I seldom feel it and never bleed but this morning I woke up and found a very large blue bruise where I injected last night. No pain or even discomfort but the spot is pretty large. Guess I dont understand this. Anyone have an idea ? I know some people bruise easily but I'm not one of them .

Sniper, it is possible that you hit a very small blood vessel. That would cause a little bleeding under the
skin (bruise). Us oldies tend to bruise easier too!!
Are you supposed to draw back the syringe a little once the needle is id, or are you using a pen?

Sniper, my husband has been giving me methotrexate injections in the stomach for over two years. Like you say, very small needle and sometimes don't even feel it. Every once in awhile I wake up with a big bruise. Could be hitting a blood vessel and a few times there is a little drop of blood. Sometimes I have matching bruises on either side. I am older and seem to bruise quite easily these days. I don't worry about it.

I had the same thing happen with my Humira and kinda freaked out, and posted a similar question, so don't feel bad. It's funny you can give yourself shots for so long and one day have a bruise and never have had one before....strange....but I guess it's a blood vessel also.

when I had gestational diabetes I had to give myself insulin shots. I couldn't do the belly, it was way too sensitive, the thigh was sometimes ok, but I had to do it in the behind, I couldn't feel them there. Every once in a while I would get a bruise, but like the others said, probably a vessel.

I get that sometimes with my Forteo shot - same type of needle, teeny tiny. Usually doesn't hurt at all, but once in a while I bruise and figure I hit a blood vessel.
