someone please help me feels like blockage

The past couple days I have not been able to go to the bathroom although I get the urge to about 40 times a day. I get very bad cramping and a very hard full feeling on my left hand side of my abdomen. When I run to the bathroom I only have gas and very very little D. My doctor gave me a sepository I use at night time and a new drug called aprisol which is an anti inflamitory. Has anyone ever had this feeling of constantly having to go and just having a lot of gas and very little D? Or has anyone ever been on these medications. Please help me. Thank you

Yes I had these exact symptoms recently. I thought it was a blockage as well, if you develop a bad fever defiantly go to the ER. I would suggest you try a strong laxative like magnesium citrate or miralax or both combined along with increased hydration. Again if you get a fever or severe abdominal pain go to the ER, I had the exact same symptoms and went to the ER.

The following information is from the prescribing information for Apriso:

Mesalamine has been associated with an acute intolerance syndrome that may be

difficult to distinguish from a flare of inflammatory bowel disease. Although the

exact frequency of occurrence has not been determined, it has occurred in 3% of

patients in controlled clinical trials of mesalamine or sulfasalazine. Symptoms include

cramping, acute abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea, sometimes fever, headache, and

rash. If acute intolerance syndrome is suspected, promptly discontinue treatment with

APRISO.

The symptoms you describe fit in with this. I'm not saying this is what is wrong but a possibility.  Have you called your GI and reported the sudden change you have had? Have you called the after-hours number and spoken with the on-call doctor? I sounds like you need to be evaluated. Let us know.

Thank u ldes for that I actually did read that in my little pamphlet my pharmecist gave me. I had these symptoms before I used this medicine so I think ill be ok with that (I hope it doesn't get worse) but do u think I should get a kaxative or something like that even thought I am so inflammed and swelled? I feel like it would make it a lot worse

It's really not my place to recommend any kind of treatment. You REALLY need to ask your doctor this type of question. I can tell you are feeling lousy and need help so you really should call your doctor. Almost every GI has an after hours answering service. Call your GI's nimber and see what is available. Otherwise you might have to resort to an urgent care visit. Wish I could be of more help.

Just my opinion, but I would start by reducing your diet to just clear liquids to see if that helps. When things get bad for me this helps things. Then I gradually add non-clear liquids, then soft food as I feel like I can tolerate more.

I also have tried Miralax in the past when I had that urge to go but nothing has come out, and it has helped me. Just make sure, if you do that, to drink lots of fluids. And if things get worse (pain is worse, you get a fever, vomiting, etc.) go to the ER.

I do agree with Ides that you need to call your doctor and let them know what's going on. It seems you're overwhelmed right now, and they need to know that you can't deal with things like they are.

I agree with the others in that you do need to call your doctor. I was in the same "crappy" place this week. I had gone for 5 days with no BM, and I suffer from constipation, so I started to take stool softeners. At day 9 with no relief I called the doctor. He suggested Miralax in the AM and PM (1 capful) until I had success. It wasn't until I took the Miralax for 3 days that I had a BM, but still not what I would expect after that many days and that much medication. Very frequent, thin stool. But, hey, I'll take it! Just don't wait too long before you call. I started to feel really nauseous for the last day before I finally went, and it was scary. Has anyone else here had this happen? What about the thin stool? I'm assuming that's indicative of narrowing. I'm due for a regular doc visit in 2 months. What would you all do?

when you have cramping or constip. or both. the worst thing you could do is eat, strickly fast, a fast should last minmum of 36hrs for it to be effective, 72hr's is best, but that is 4 days. but it is really good for gut to fast. as long as you drink clear fluids, 4 day fast will not kill you. I've done it many times.

I don't think fasting is the answer. I think you are better off doing as Monikray suggested and going on clear liquids for a bit, to give your bowel a rest.

a fast is clear fluids. ask any gi they will tell, rest your gut if it's not right. don't feed it. it's common sense

I was one of the people who had an adverse reaction to the mesalamine products. When I took them orally, my bleeding went crazy. Probably doubled my symptoms. So my doctor, thinking my flare was worsening, doubled my Asacol. That's when I knew... I was reacting.

A different doctor (changed after the above happened) wondered if I wanted to try the enema formula of mesalamine... I said sure... I cramped so badly - the was crazy. I was also very bloated after using it. Plus it just hurt like heck. I took it once and it was so bad I "let it back out" but the effects lingered through until the next day.

You could be having a mixture of reasons behind what you're feeling. I think you've gotten good advice, I just wanted to chime in with what Ides had posted. It does really happen.

Also, the feeling of needing to urgently rush and "go" followed by nothing but spasms is called tenesmus. Pain in the butt. ;-)

Usually, when obstruction occurs, pain is usually felt in the middle of your tummy, and it comes in waves, much
like contractions. There would also be a lack of gas (no bowel sounds) Vomiting usually follows, this can be the
regular run of the mill type of vomit, or it will contain fecal fluids.
I think what you're describing is probably constipation, which in itself can cause problems, so please don't leave
it too long before seeking medical attention. Good luck!!

Everyone thank you so much for your input. I called my doctor and he said so keep taking my apriso and to start the mesalamine up the butt lol yesterday was my firstnight doing it. It really didn't make anything better but I guess all medicines take a while to start working so we will see. Today I was super gassy lol so I guess something in there is moving. Thank you all again
